Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for 47-year Inyo County resident Ray Bocanegra. Father John Gracey will officiate.
Born Aug. 31, 1931 in Colton, Ray died April 27, 2011 in Round Valley. He was 79.
Ray was a retired civil engineer who began his career in 1949 with the Bureau of Public Roads. He retired after 25 years from Caltrans as Senior Administrator of District 9. He carried on with the County of Kern Public Works, then with the County of San Bernardino Road Department.
He was also a member the Knights of Columbus and supported the Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ed Bocanegra; and grandson Ramien Bocanegra.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Petra Bocanegra; sister, Elise Robledo; sons, Tom Bocanegra and Eric Bocanegra; daughters, Carol Tuttle and Susan Olito-Hammon; grandsons, Alex and Carlos Bocanegra, Ryan, Brandon, Sean, Curtis and Gabriel Bocanegra; granddaughters, Natalie Olito, Vickie Olito, Marissa Tuttle and Lisa Bocanegra; great-grandsons, John McWilliams, David Dennis, Dante, Damien and Donovan Bocanegra; and great-granddaughter, Caitlen Bocanegra.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ICARE, the Salvation Army or disabled American veterans.
