The match-up between the Bishop Lady Broncos softball squad and the Rosamond Lady Roadrunners was a 10-inning epic played out at home Friday afternoon.
Tied 9-9 at the end of seven innings, it took three more to determine the winner. The Roadrunners pulled ahead in the 10th for a 10-14 win.
“The girls played hard,” said coach Stacy Van Nest. “They never gave up. The score and our league record (0-3) do not reflect all that our girls have accomplished. They played two ranked teams this week and challenged both.”
The teams exchanged leads throughout the game. Bishop started in the bottom of the second with a run. Rosamond answered with 4 runs off 2 walks, an error and 2 hits, taking a 1-4 lead.
The Broncos came back with 5 runs off a walk, an error and 3 hits in the bottom of the third putting the score at 6-4.
The Bishop lead stood through the fourth. The Roadrunners tied it 6-6 with 2 hits, then went ahead 6-7 with a run in the sixth.
The Broncos regained the lead with 3 runs off 4 hits, taking a 9-7 lead into the top of the final inning in regulation.
Two Roadrunner runs tied the score 9-all with a 2-run homer. The Broncos tried to score by tagging up off a fly to left field, but were thrown out forcing overtime.
The teams exchanged runs in the eighth and went scoreless through the ninth.
In the top of the 10th, Rosamond scored 4 runs off a walk, 2 hits and 2 errors. The Broncos got a runner to third but failed to score.
“We’re looking forward to a little rest during spring break,” said Van Nest. “We’ll be ready and recharged to finish the last three weeks of league play.”
The Broncos play Desert at home Tuesday, April 26 at 3:15.
