Leon ‘Buck’ Bills

Services are pending for 80-year Olancha resident Leon “Buck” Bills. The family plans to gather in early summer to celebrate his life.
Born Dec. 31, 1917 in Indiahoma, Okla., Buck died Feb. 18, 2011 in Lone Pine. He was 93.
Buck began as a packer at the Cottonwood Pack Station; served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge; and after 20-plus years working as a butcher, he finally retired and picked up where he began, spending the remainder of his life working as a true cowboy.
Buck was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine Bills, in October of 2004 and many more family and friends.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Emma Bills of Lone Pone, Ronnie and Tricia Bills of Olancha and Denny and Janet Bills of Ridgecrest; grandchildren, Rusty Huerta of Cartago, Stacy Medeiros of Phoenix, Ariz., Pam Daughtery of Lone Pine, Stephen Bills of Ridgecrest, Chelsea Bills of Paso Robles, Russ Anderson of Ridgecrest and Savannah Anderson of Eureka; and seven great-grandchildren, Hazel Anne Lee, Cassie Baker, Ren Bills, Prestin Huerta, Harley Daughtery, Jaqueline Bills and Jagger Daughtery.
