Thomas L. Cone

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 11 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop, followed by a reception at the VFW at 2 p.m. for Thomas L. Cone.
Born June 4, 1930 in Lubbock, Texas to Thomas Fowler Cone and Maggie Bloys Cone, Thomas died Feb. 7, 2011. He was 80.
Tom moved with his family to Fresno in 1945 and graduated from Fresno High School in 1947. After high school, Tom enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1950-54. His service took him to England where he was able to see the coronation of Queen Elizabeth, II.
After returning stateside, Tom married Darlene Austin of Fresno on March 17, 1957. They moved to Bishop, where he worked as a photographer, for Union Carbide and the University of California’s White Mountain Research Station.
Inspired by the beauty of the area Tom began creating paintings of local scenes. The gnarled Bristlecone Pine trees were a favorite subject. Tom and his wife, Darlene, loved to explore the area, hunting, fishing and visiting Native American sites in the area.  Tom was an active member of the VFW Post 8988 in Bishop.
“We will all find the world a little sadder for his passing,” the family said.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Frances Cone Crow; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh M. and Vicky Cone, James A. and Becky Cone and C. Michael Cone; and nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
