Venita Marie Adams
At her request, services will not be held for longtime Bishop resident Venita Marie Adams.
Born April 28, 1931 in Wheeler, Texas, Venita died Jan. 21, 2011. She was 79.
Venita’s life began during the Dust Bowl. In 1936, her family moved west to get away from the stricken land and relocated to Riverdale, where as the oldest of six siblings, she helped raise her younger brothers and sisters. She later would form her own family and found her way to the beautiful Sierra Nevada, where she would make her home for more than 50 years.
She worked at Northern Inyo Hospital for 35 years and was honored for her years of dedicated service. She was also dedicated to her family and friends and they will remember her for her generosity, love and her fiery red hair with a stubborness to match. Her presence will be greatly missed but her spirit will live on in the beautiful Owens Valley.
Venita was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Adams; and her son, James E. Adams.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Northern Inyo Hospital and the Bishop Care Center for going above and beyond in making her last days comfortable.
She is survived by her son, Melvin F. Roberts of Bakersfield; daughter, Jacqueline M. Adams of San Francisco; grandchildren, Rob Roberts, Greg Roberts, Erin Gann, Johnnie Roberts, Teddy Adams, Evan Spoonhunter and Ezra Mass; and six great-grandchildren.
To honor Venita’s memory, donations may be made to the Inyo Mono Area Agency on Aging and Meals on Wheels of Inyo County, P.O. Box Drawer A, Independence, CA 93526.
