The Big Pine Warriors traveled to Lee Vining for a make-up game Wednesday and came home with a split decision.
The Warriors delivered the first league defeat for the Tigers with a 38-37 win.
The Lady Warriors rallied from a 19-point deficit but couldn’t catch up, recording a 41-35 loss.
The Warriors’ win came down to the wire. Coach Darrin Chirrick put his squad in stall mode for the last 4-5 minutes of play.
“We were up by six points and I wanted to keep us in the driver’s seat,” said Chirrick. The tactic worked, but just barely.
With 10 seconds on the game clock and a one point lead for Big Pine, the Tigers got the ball to their high-scoring Danny Taylor.
Taylor drove to the net, went up for the shot and missed. Big Pine grabbed the rebound and the win.
Without Big Pine’s own high scorer Isaiah Bacoch, the whole team had to step up for the win.
“Our defense was good, we started with our man-to-man and stuck with it,” said Chirrick. “Everybody really stepped up their game.”

The Lady Warriors got off to a slow start, dropping into a deep hole they couldn’t quite climb out of.
Big Pine put on an impressive drive, coming to within 5 points of the Lady Tigers but the hole was just to deep.
“We really didn’t play the kind of complete game we had against Trona,” said coach Dave Mettam. “A lot of shots just circled the net and wouldn’t go in.
“We’ve had a good practice and are going to a man-to-man defense, so we’re ready for Baker.”
The Warriors, both girls and boys are 2-1 in Hi-Lo League, traveled to Baker yesterday and meet Immanuel Christian Tuesday at Ridgecrest.
