Shirley Dolores Roberson
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for Shirley Dolores Roberson. Pastor Kent Puls will officiate.
Born Oct. 19, 1934 in Fargo, N.D. to Earl and Florence Nelsen, Shirley died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011. She was 76.
Shirley left the farm and moved with her parents to Trona, where she attended Trona elementary and high schools.
She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Roberson, and together they built their own home and reared two daughters.
In 1978 they moved to Bishop where they owned and worked a cattle ranch. Once again, Shirley rekindled her love for farm life. She raised chickens and tended a beautiful garden, entering her prized vegetables in the Tri-County Fair.
She was a superb cook and volunteered as a girl scout leader and 4-H leader.
Once her daughters were raised, Shirley obtained a license in phlebotomy. She had a natural talent for decorating and her home was a warm, visual delight for all who visited.
Shirley is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Victoria and Ray Petitt of DeRidder, La., and Robin and Curt Giovanine of Bishop; grandchildren, Joel Krause of Bishop, Nina and Elke Giovanine of Ventura, Cpl. Mason Roberson and his wife Jasmine of Ft. Polk, La. and Trent Roberson of DeRidder; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Merik and Travis Roberson of Ft. Polk; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Leona Nelsen of Trona; and nephew, Dino Nelsen of Trona.
