Memorial services for Joy Kizer will be announced at a later date.
Born Sept. 15, 1942 in Fort Wayne, Ind., Joy died Dec. 16, 2010 after living a fruitful and wonderful life.
It was in Fort Wayne that she attended grammar school and high school, where, in her sophomore year, she met her future husband, Richard Kizer.
After graduating high school, Joy went to work for an insurance company. In June 1962 she and Richard were married. A little more than a year later, the couple packed all their belongings in a trailer and moved to Bishop, where they raised two wonderful children.
Joy was active in the Church of Christ her entire life. She also was a teacher’s aid for approximately 30 years with the Pine Street School Resource Class. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching the children and had many successes. One of her colleagues summarized Joy as a wonderful lady that enjoyed life and living it.
From 1975 through 1985, Joy also owned and operated a pet store in Bishop.
She is survived by her husband of 48-and-a-half years, Richard Kizer; daughter, Katrina Schachtely; son-in-law, Alan Schachtely; granddaughter, Claire Schachtely, all of Atlanta, Ga.; son, William Kizer; daughter-in-law, Caylee Kizer; grandson, Andrew Kizer; granddaughter, Lauren Kizer, all of Citrus Heights; mother, Dulla Schlaudraff, and sister, Ann Wenger, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers and/or gifts, donations in Joy’s memory be made to Pioneer Home Health Care.
