Governor declares state of disaster in Mono

February 27, 2015

Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday formally declared Mono County a disaster area, opening state emergency funding for victims of the Round Fire in Swall Meadows.

“This will give us access every bit of resources the state can give,” said County Administrative Officer Jim Leddy.

“Primarily it will give us help in debris cleanup and other expenses.”

Leddy said further information will be discussed on Tuesday evening, March 3, when the Board of Supervisors will convene at 6 p.m. at the Crowley Lake Community Center.

The Round Fire destroyed 40 structures in Swall Meaows on Feb. 6.

Kentucky played host to SEC league door matt Auburn and appropriately blew them out of the gym. Kentucky used a 23-2 run in the first half to break open a 27 point first half lead. They never looked back as Auburn never seriously threatened again. Karl Anthony Towns led Kentucky with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

High school sports update

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles varsity boys team, a juggernaut during the regular season, beat the Bloomington Christian Ravens last night at home to advance to the second round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs. The team will be headed to Santa Barbara tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 20, to face Bishop Diego.

Despite excellent play, the Bishop Broncos varsity soccer squad was knocked out of the CIF Central Section playoffs, losing on the road to Cesar E. Chavez High School by a single goal.

Lady Broncos to face KV in last game of season

The Bishop High School varsity Lady Broncos basketball team takes on the Kern Valley Lady Broncs tonight at 6 p.m. in the Gus Klekas Gym.
Not only is this the final game of the regular season, but it's Bishop's chance to end the season undefeated at 9-0 for league play.
The girls have already clinched the High Desert League title.
It's also Senior Night tonight, when both the girls and boys teams will be recognizing their graduating players.
All spectators are encouraged to wear white for a "white out" as they cheer the home teams on to victory.

Remains found in Death Valley

February 17, 2015

Graig Legatt’s remains were located on Feb. 16, 2015 in Death Valley National Park, about one mile up a ravine from where his vehicle was discovered by National Park Services rangers.
Legatt was reported missing last week.
The vehicle was reported to the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 10; since then both ground and aerial searches have been conducted in attempt to locate Legatt.
The Inyo County Coroner has notified Legatt’s family; the cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
