Letter to the Editor: County being disingenuous about severity of library cuts

July 2, 2014

I am concerned about misinformation and misleading information being circulated by county officials.
But first, I want you to know upfront that I am the daughter of the Library Director. If this fact makes you doubt my words, then I’d rather you know right away than realize it later. That said, as someone who feels strongly that the people’s access to free information is an absolute necessity of a healthy republic, my words and actions would be the same no matter my relation to the library.

The Outdoorsman: Intake II, South Lake by float tube are the hot spots

Summer is official on June 21, but if you asked the high country lakes it got here a week or two ago. Sounds of a Sierra Solstice

June 19, 2014

CruiseShip Volunteers and SR2 will both be performing for the first Sierra Solstice Celebration from 5-10 p.m. this Saturday at Mill Creek Station, nine miles north of Bishop off U.S. Highway 395. The venue is owned by Mary Lou Long and Roger Derryberry, who have put a lot of effort into turning it into a viable cultural center for the area, and both groups are excited to have the opportunity to perform on Mill Creek Station’s uniquely beautiful outdoor stage at the base of a historical rock quarry.

Libraries and museum key to creating informed citizens

June 16, 2014

This Tuesday (today), the Board of Supervisors will hear six funding options for the Inyo County Free Library and the Eastern California Museum. I support the roadmap option prepared by the library director to fund the Inyo County Free Library at 2012-13 levels and to continue to fund the Eastern California Museum at existing levels.
