By Mike Gervais Register Staff
Residents in the 300 block of East Line Street got a rude awakening early Monday morning when an alleged drunk driver plowed into a parked vehicle and an apartment building.
The Bishop Police Department received a report of a possible drunk driving accident on East Line Street at about 2:11 a.m. Monday. The crash resulted in the arrest of a local man who is suspected of driving while under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, according to Sergeant Fred Gomez, who was serving as night commander early Monday morning. When officers arrived at the scene of the accident at about 2:15 a.m., Gomez said, they found a green Ford pickup truck that had collided with a parked vehicle before hitting an apartment building at 331 E. Line St. At the scene of the accident, the vehicle’s driver was nowhere to be found and had apparently fled, said Gomez. There were no injuries in the crash, said Gomez, and as of Monday at press time, the PD had not obtained a cost estimate for the damages caused by the crash, which included the suspect vehicle, a parked vehicle on East Line Street and the apartment building. According to Gomez, the Ford truck “knocked the porch off the building.” Officers at the scene of the accident found the suspect’s cell phone in the vehicle. According to one witness, officers answered the phone only to determine that the caller on the other line was “really drunk.” According to Gomez, Reyes Carrillo, 24, of Bishop turned himself in to the Bishop Police Department in connection with the crash at approximately 4 a.m. Monday morning. He was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and hit and run.
