Allowing Lee Vining two runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Big Pine High baseball team came just short in a 6-5 Hi-Lo League loss on the road Wednesday. A close contest throughout, the Warriors had the upper hand most of the game, leading 2-0 in the first inning, 4-2 at the end of three and 5-4 heading into the final inning. The Tigers then scored two in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
“That was a tough way to lose,” said Big Pine coach Scott Rosga. “We played well throughout the game and had opportunities to score lots of runs, we just couldn’t put the hits together.” Senior Donabe Butterbredt “pitched well,” said Rosga, giving up the 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and a walk, while striking out 10 in seven innings. “He had great control,” Rosga added, “and pitched well enough to get a win.” Junior shortstop Chance Colvin got things started on a high note for the Warriors, taking an 0-2 pitch deep for a lead-off home run, and finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and 3 scores for the game; Butterbredt also batted 3-for-4, and added 2 doubles and drove in a run; and sophomore catcher Skylar Amisone went 1-for-3 and scored once. Big Pine, 2-1 in league play, traveled to Trona yesterday for more HLL action, then hosts Trona on Tuesday, May 6 at 3:15 p.m. |
