The Lone Pine High School track and field team participated in the Desert Mountain League prelims on Wednesday, April 23 at Boron High School, along with Silver Valley and Desert Christian (Lancaster). Twenty-one of 27 Lone Pine athletes will advance to the league finals, the largest delegation of Eagles at the finals in about 20 years, according to coach Jeff Putman.
“Andrea Ripoyla gained five feet on her discus throw, winning the meet at 64-feet,10-inches, and Julianne Obregon produced a season-best shot put of 23’6” for second place,” Putman said. “Rebeca Luna added one foot to her best shot put to move into a third-place tie with teammate Ashlei Ripoyla, and Celia Acevedo took a few tenths off her best 100-meter hurdle time. Lone Pine senior Ashlei Ripoyla lets loose during her competition in the discus at the Desert Mountain League prelims last week. Adrian Gonzalez had a personal best in the high jump, which he’ll add to two relay legs in the finals. Acevedo and the freshmen twin hurdlers, Julie Allen and Briea Emory, will contest the 100- and 300-meter hurdle races, and all three will run relay legs. “Obed Espindola looks solid in the distances, running 4th and 3rd in the 1600- and 3200-meter races, where he will be joined by teammate Nick Obregon,” Putman concluded. The DML finals are this Thursday, May 1, 2 p.m., at Cerro Coso Community College in Ridgecrest.
