Forrest E. Boothe
1922-2008

No funeral services have been announced for former Bishop resident Forrest E. Boothe.
Born in North Fork, Calif, to William “Roy” Boothe and Rose Cynthia Parkinson, Forrest died on March 4, 2008 in Sonoma.
When Forrest was 3 years old his father, who was stationed in the U.S. Forest Service, was transferred to Bishop.
Growing up in Bishop in the ’20s and ’30s, Forrest experienced an idyllic boyhood in the Owens Valley. He graduated from Bishop Union High School in 1939 and went on to graduate from Pomona College in 1943.
While at Pomona College he met and fell in love with Phyllis Mae MacMillan who was born in Vancouver, B.C.
After college, Forrest went to Naval Midshipman’s School in Chicago, Ill. Three hours after graduation ceremonies he a and Phyllis were married.
They spent some time in Cambridge, Mass. where Forrest went through specialized training in communications at Harvard.
Forrest then served in World War II in the South Pacific, primarily at Bouganville, Australia.
After the war, Forrest did graduate work at U.C. Berkeley. While job hunting, in the advertising field, he went to work for W.A. Palmer Films in San Francisco, a 16 mm motion picture film company, in a “part time,” temporary job that grew and became a lifetime profession.
He did the sound mix for the first Charlie Brown television special and won a Cine ’80 award for his work on the film “Mustang … Managing a Misfit.”
A life-long hobby of Forrest’s was the love of fine cars. As a youth, he and a friend, Glen Tinder, took turns photographing each other while posed next to the occasional fine cars parked at various locations in Bishop while their owners were in town.  Forrest collected sales brochures from these automobile manufacturers. He was never able to afford a Duesenberg, or a Cord, but he enjoyed reading about them and looking longingly at the pictures.
Forrest and Phyllis retired and moved to the Creekside Village retirement community in Sonoma in 1986, where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement life and developed many new interests and friendships. They also enjoyed being close to their only grandchild.
Forrest was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, on Feb. 10, 2005.
He is survived by his sons, Ross Morgan Boothe and Forrest Bradford Boothe of Santa Rosa; grandson, Jordan Ross Boothe of Santa Rosa; sister, Helen Dixon of Bishop; sister-in-law, Alice Boothe of Bishop; nephews and their spouses, John and Jill Boothe and Roy and Beverly Boothe; nieces and their spouses, Mary Jane Dixon, Dorrie and Bob Klug, Katie and Bill Matsu, Janet and Gert Dougherty and Linda and Mike Weier; and numerous great-nieces and great- nephews.
