Ray was very active in the Big Pine Civic Club and took pride in his role as Flag Chairman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy; their two dogs, Maggie and Murphy; his son, David; mother, Millie; brother, Gary and wife Madelyn; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Mackenzie Ryan Richard Dorn
1994-2008

A memorial celebration of life was held on Feb. 23, 2008 in Whispering Pines, N.C. for Mackenzie Ryan Richard Dorn.
Born Nov. 9, 1994 in Washington, D.C. with a rare heart condition, hypoplastic left ventricular heart, Mackenzie Ryan Richard Dorn, 13, of Stuart, Fla. died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 while awaiting a heart transplant at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainsville, Fla.
Mackenzie spent most of his growing up years in Whispering Pines, N.C., only recently moving to Florida in November 2007 at which time he began to develop heart problems. He was hospitalized in Sourthern Florida and then transferred to Shands when it was discovered a heart transplant would be necessary. He was added to the transplant list on Jan. 2, 2008 as the no. 1 recipient, only a heart was not found in time and his courageous battle was lost the morning of Feb. 16, 2008.
Mackenzie’s life was short in years, but those who were touched by him understand that the quality of his existence far exceeds quantity of time, and he lived his life to the fullest, always with a smile. He possessed strength, perseverance and the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. His courage led those around him to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
He enjoyed fishing in the pond behind his home, swimming in his backyard pool (but not so much in the ocean at Palm Beach, Fla. where a shark got within 15 feet of him) and playing with his dogs, Jack and Kacye. He was a very talented artist, even having one of his drawings recognized in a North Carolina State Art Show last year. Mackenzie had a very quick wit about him and loved to tell jokes. Dinnertime especially was filled with laughter as MacKenzie would share his latest joke, often times laughing so hard you could not understand them.  His laughter and smile was infectious. His life was filled with love and happiness. He loved his family more than anything and especially loved spending time cuddling with his mom. He talked often of playing football with his cousins after he got his “new heart” and wanted to be an organ donor spokesperson when he grew up.
“You are our diamond in the sky little man and you will shine in our hearts forever,” family said.
Mackenzie is survived by his loving parents, Matt and Kristen (Croxon) Dorn of Stuart; sister and brother, Sydney and Logan Dorn of Stuart; great-grandma, Thelma Yost of Monrovia; grand-parents, Norm and Judy Croxon of Weaverville and Roy and Carol Dorn of Fond Du Lac, Wisc.; uncles and aunts, David and Tracy Croxon and Amber Fischer of Reno, Sam and Wendi Adams of Dayton, Nev., Tony and Tammy Chavez of Bishop and Colleen and Mike, Kelly and Ron and Julie, all of Wisconsin; and numerous cousins in Nevada and Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Covenant Fellowship Church in Mackenzie’s name at 1305 Hulsey Rd., Carthage, NC 28327
