Inyo Council for the Arts 2-7-2008
Following are some noteworthy events in the art community that are worth marking the calendar for this winter and spring.
• A new art show at the Inyo Council for the Arts Gallery, 137 S. Main St., Bishop, will be running through March 7. The show features a terrific collection by local favorites such as Janice Kabala, Jill Kinmont Boothe, Beverly Schroeder, Lynn Wechsler, Pat Crowther and many more. There’s a lot of talent in the Owens Valley. The show will be open from 10-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more info, call (760) 873-8014. • March 6-7 at 7 p.m.: Incendio, a Millpond Music Festival favorite from 2007, will be in concert at Lone Pine High School on Thursday, March 6 and at the Bishop High School Auditorium on Friday, March 7. These concerts are free to the community, made possible by a recent grant from The James Irvine Foundation. Incendio will also be performing in assemblies at several local schools. • Feb. 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 6:30-9 p.m.: A writing workshop for serious writers at any stage of their career will be hosted by Eva Poole-Gilson. Every writer will have at least 10 pages of work critiqued. The cost of four sessions is $40. Registration and payment should have been turned in by Feb. 1. • Feb. 9, 6 p.m.: Northern Inyo Hospital Foundation’s Ground Hog-A-Go-Go, featuring the Bishop Big Band will be held in the Home Ec. Building at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop. Wine and appetizers will be served and dancing starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person or $40 for couples. For more information, call Cheryl at (760) 873-2153. • Friday, March 14 at 6 p.m.: ICA and Friends of the Jill Kinmont-Boothe School are presenting a Fundraising Auction, with music, refreshments and an opportunity to support both non-profit organizations by bidding on silent and live auction items including weekend getaways, original artwork, live performances by local musicians and more. Admission is $5 and the event will be held at the Jill Kinmont-Boothe School at 166 Grandview Dr., Bishop. For more info, call 873-8014. • March 28-29: Mark your calendars for the Banff Festival of Mountain Films hosted by James and Kay Wilson of Wilson’s Eastside Sports. These films will be shown at the Charles Brown Auditorium at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop. Other Local Events • Feb. 9 and Feb. 23 and March 8 and March 15, 10-3 p.m.: Wildlife Tile Workshop, a community mural project for Bishop Library, will be held at the Bishop campus of Cerro Coso Community College. Coming Events Sponsored by Beads of Bishop: • February – For those who are up to the challenge of making a beautiful tiny beaded pouch, an off-loom beading class will be taught by well-known Bishop beader, Lynn Wechsler, in mid or late February at the Pegasus Art Gallery. Details to be announced. • March – Internationally-known bead researcher, writer, teacher and necklace designer Jamey Allen will offer a two-day bead stringing clinic on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at Pegasus Gallery.
