Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Brune Mortuary in Bishop for Alverna M. Piper. Interment will be at the Sunland Indian Cemetery in Bishop. Visitation will be at Brune Mortuary from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 31. A cry dance will be held at dusk at the Piper residence on Friday, June 1 at 301 Tu Su Lane.
Born in Stewart, Nev. on Dec. 27, 1941, Alverna died at her home in Bishop on May 21, 2007.
She was well-known as “Vern” all her life by her brothers and sisters, relatives and friends. She enjoyed life and took it very seriously. As she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, she was able to help and encourage others along the way. She enjoyed the word of the Lord, and she also loved singing as well. Crocheting was her best hobby, as she would venture into the unknown in creating her own designs.
Alverna is survived by her husband, Floyd Piper, Sr. of Bishop; brother, Gene Talas of Bishop; son, Reginald Saubel and wife Tina of Banning, Calif.; daughter, La Wanda Shoshone of Cathedral City, Calif.; daughter, Desiree Rodriguez and husband Manuel of Banning; daughter, Tammara Spoonhunter of Bishop; son, Floyd Piper, Jr. of Bishop; son, Darrick Piper and wife Vivian of Bishop; son, Preston Piper of Bishop; son, Troy Piper of Bishop; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
“We will all miss her dearly,” the family said.
