Chapters just keep getting added to one local success story.

Three months after opening yet another franchise, Bishop-based Pestmaster Services, Inc. has announced the award of a new contract with the Department of the Navy in Norfolk, Va.
According to Pestmaster  President Jeff Van Diepen, the award will create a new service center in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area for the company.
“We’re very excited about this award, as it anchors Pestmaster Services to the Navy for the next decade, in the Norfolk area,”  Van Diepen said. “This is our second office in Virginia, with the other located near Washington, D.C., at Ft. Belvoir. This gives us key contracts with both the Army and Navy,” he added.
“Pestmaster Services has developed its menu of services around key customers and their unique pest control requirements. This contract with the Navy requires us to handle everything from rodents to roaches to termites to mosquitoes. It will be challenging but it’s what we do very well and it’s how the company has grown from being a small local company, to the nation’s no. 44 pest control firm,” said Van Diepen.
He credits his Contracts Department (Lynda Dean and Pat Kard) and General Manager David Price for the identification and development of Pestmaster’s proposal and relationship-building with the Navy that ultimately landed the contract. “I work with some very talented people, and Pestmaster’s success is due to these dedicated pros.”
There are about 21,000 pest control companies operating in the U.S., according to the National Pest Management Association. Pestmaster Services has active operations in California, Nevada, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, New Jersey, New York and now, Pennsylvania.
Pestmaster opened its newest franchise, in Luzerne County, Pa., just this fall.
Franchise owners Rick and Kyra Macko are natives of the city of Wilkes-Barre in Luzerne County, and according to Franchise Director Terry Walker, are happy to have joined Pestmaster Service’s Franchise Network.
For the past five years, Rick has worked as an animal control officer for the city of Wilkes-Barre. As an animal control officer, Rick enforced state and local laws pertaining to animal cruelty as well as locating strays so they can be reunited with their families; he was also responsible for trapping and releasing nuisance wildlife. Kyra has been a grade-school teacher for nine years and was recently promoted to teach advanced students in the first and sixth grades.
The Mackos started operating Sept. 1 from their home office. They will service the entire county of Luzerne as well as commercial contracts in other parts of Pennsylvania.
“We are very excited and happy to join the Pestmaster family, we were looking to get into a business for ourselves but not by ourselves, the Pestmaster training and ongoing support has far surpassed our expectations,” said Rick and Kyra about their new business venture.
Walker and the entire staff of Pestmaster take great pride in making sure their franchisees are successful. “We feel that we not only bought a franchise but gained an extended family,” Walker said.
Walker  said the  Pennsylvania location will benefit from Pestmaster Franchise Network’s name recognition, protected geographical area, human resource consultant, in-house contracts department, volume buying power (discounts on equipment and supplies), comprehensive operations manual and employee handbook, reduced insurance rates, including general liability, auto and worker’s compensation, training and ongoing support by a team of exceptional consultants whose job is to assist in every franchises growth.
Pestmaster Services Inc. was founded in Bishop 1979 by Van Diepen.
“Jeff had a vision of providing the most effective pest management service possible, while maintaining an earnest concern for our environment and safety,” Walker said. “Today our team of industry-recognized experts continually search for the best possible means of preventing and eliminating pests. We have become industry leaders in working with the military, exotic weed control, mosquito abatement and using Integrated Pest Management techniques.”
