Bobbie Jo Checo
1965-2010


Private services will be held for immediate family for Bobbie Jo Checo.
Born Feb. 25, 1965 in Lone Pine, Bobbie died Jan. 16, 2010.
“May she rest in peace,” the family said.                         
She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Checo.
She is survived by her mother, Bobbie Checo; son, Kalem Checo; daughter, Esther Checo; granddaughter, Lillian James; and sister, Esther Fillingame.

Eva Smith
1924-2010


Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the West Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for 40-year Bishop resident Eva Smith.
Born Feb. 29, 1924 in Ohio, Eva died Jan. 25, 2010 in Bishop. She was 86.
Anyone who met Eva was blessed. She was a caring, devoted and kind person who loved Jesus Christ.
“May she now rest in peace,” her family said.
Eva is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Fidoriga of Hawaii.

Leonard Robert Chuning
1924-2010


No services will be held for 30-year Bishop resident Leonard Robert Chuning.
Born Oct. 22, 1924 in Akron, Ohio, Leonard died Jan. 8, 2010 at his home. He was 85.
“Leonard was an amazingly loving and encouraging man. He loved sharing with everyone. He impacted many lives with his love. He will be missed,” his family said.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Barbara Chuning of Bishop; sons, Bill Nowak of Carson City, Nev. and Ted Nowak of Chatsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Murray and Tonya Miller; daughter-in-law, Tammy Hurley of Mammoth Lakes; granddaughters, Buffy Flagg of Gardnerville, Nev. and Kim Miller of Bishop; grandson, Dustin Nowak of Bishop; and nieces, Karen Guesman of and Teri Guseman, both of Dallas, and Dana Conaway of Bishop.

This obituary is being re-run to correct an error in the list of survivors.

Robert Lee Lane
1949-2010


Services will be held this summer at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3900 N. Main St. in Baytown, Texas for Robert Lee Lane of Mammoth Lakes.
Born March 2, 1949, Robert died Jan. 10, 2010. He was 60.
Robert served for 25 years as a high school physics teacher in Maryland and Southern California and spent those summers at Mammoth Lakes. He retired to Mammoth Lakes to be a full-time resident.
Bob participated in high school sports with letters in four different sports for four years. For many years, besides teaching physics, he coached high school women’s tennis and basketball. His basketball team got beyond their district one year.
Bob taught in inner-city schools and his students came from families of limited financial resources, yet, he was able to get some of them to college educational levels and get some winning teams too. He also received many honors for his creative teaching.
Bob is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Helen Lane Rowe and Roger Rowe; and son, Mike.
Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Mammoth High School Associated Student Body for enhancing students’ participation in sports.
 
Lorene Sargent
1924-2010


Funeral services for 47-year Big Pine resident Lorene Sargent will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Big Pine Baptist Church with burial to follow at the Big Pine Cemetery. Pastors Tim Toppas and Ron Sargent will officiate.
Born Aug. 24, 1924 in Amiston, Ala., Lorene died at Northern Inyo Hospital on Jan. 28, 2010. She was 85.
Lorene is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Pat Sargent of Visalia, Ronald and Candy Sargent of Big Pine and Mark and Lynda Sargent of Big Pine; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Donations can be made in Lorene’s name to the Big Pine Fire Department, P.O. Box 382, Big Pine, CA 93513.
