Barbara Van Dusen-Skinner 1925-2010 A private family memorial will be held in Bishop for Barbara Van Dusen-Skinner. She will be interred in the family plot. Born April 29, 1925, Barbara died Jan. 12, 2010 at her home. She was 84. Born in Riverside, she grew up in Bishop. She graduated from Bishop High in 1943. In 1948 she completed Nursing School at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. Barbara moved to San Bernardino in 1967 with her family. She started her 25-year career at St. Bernardine Hospital working in the Ortho/Neuro Unit. In 1969, she was appointed Director of Nurses, which became an Assistant Administrator position in 1980. During this time she attended the University of Redlands where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree. In 1981, she married James A. Skinner and they retired to Barbara’s family home in Bishop in 1990. In 2005, Barbara moved to the Pacific Northwest.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, John; daughter, Joanne Marie Van Dusen; and her husband, Jim Skinner. Barbara is survived by her son, John Van Dusen Jr. of Texas; daughter, Patricia Franklin of Washington; and two grandchildren, Catherine Lynn Van Dusen and Samuel Franklin.
Caroll ‘Higgie’ Ainsworth Higginbotham 1916-2010
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nev. for Caroll Higginbotham. Born Nov. 19, 1916 in Charleston, W. Va., he died Jan. 14, 2010 at the Veterans Community Living Center in Reno. He was 93. He will be forever remembered for serving his country during World War II. He was a prisoner of war being captured in Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. He was liberated six months later by General Patton’s Army. His passion for violin making began at the age of 12. He made his first violin then and completed 40 more throughout his lifetime. He was preceded in death by wife, Mabel, and son, David. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara; grandchildren, Christopher Higginbotham, Brandie and her husband Jeff Boothe, Evan Higginbotham and Grant Higginbotham; and great-grandchildren, Michael and Morgan Boothe. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Caroll’s memory can be made to Disabled American Veterans.
Ozell Dorothy Lemon 1920-2010
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Fish Lake Valley Cemetery for Ozell Dorothy Lemon. Born Nov. 26, 1929 in Tribby, Okla. to Ozy Dee Davis and Lillie Wade Davis, Ozell died Jan. 17, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Fish Lake Valley. She was 89. Ozell made her home in Fish Lake Valley since 1947, coming form Oklahoma. Ozell was the oldest of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; two brothers; and a great-nephew. She is survived by one sister, Margie Smalley of Benton; and her sons and daughter-in-law, Larry of Fish Lake Valley and Terry and Clare of Horelock, Nev.; daughters and son-in-law, Marlene Irees, and Sheela and Steve Brooks of Fish Lake Valley; five nephews; four great-nephews; three nieces; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
