The following is a complete listing of obituaries as they appeared in the Jan. 21, 2010 edition of The Inyo Register.

King Ferdinand Fischer
1929-2010


Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bishop for King Ferdinand Fischer. Burial will follow at the East Line Street Cemetery. A reception will take place following the graveside service.
Born Aug. 24, 1929 in Long Beach to Henry F. Fischer and Daisy E. Fischer, King died Jan. 18, 2010.
King grew up in Long Beach and graduated from Long Beach Poly in 1947. He loved auto racing and had a hot rod as a teenager, he joined the Marines and spent two yeas in the occupation of Japan and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
King joined the Long Beach Fire Department in 1953 and spent more than 30 years there. He was involved in large fires such as the Ford Motor Co. Plant Fire and the Hancock Oil Refinery Fire.
He retired in 1983 and moved to Bishop. He had spent many vacations in the area and decided this was where he wanted to retire. He loved to fish and enjoy the outdoors and spent many hours at the lakes and streams.

King also loved music and had an extensive record collection of early Jazz and swing recordings. He especially loved the music of Glen Miller.
King married his wife, Dola, whom he loved very much, in 1982 and moved to Bishop shortly thereafter.
He was preceded in death by a half-brother who was killed in action in the battle of the Coral Sea.
He is survived by his wife, Dola Fischer; son, Danny Fischer; daughter, Tammy Huwald; stepdaughter, Charlotte Slack; stepson, Michael Voyles; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many stepgrandchildren.

Evelyn Steppler
1923-2010


A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brune Mortuary Chapel in Bishop for longtime Inyo/Mono resident Virgie Evelyn Steppler. A reception will follow at Highlands Park hall.
Born May 8, 1923 in Olney, Okla. to Clyde O. and Pearl Lawrence, Evelyn died Jan 18, 2010.
 Evelyn spent many years in Fillmore and Oak View, however, her love was the Eastern Sierra since she moved to the area in 1958, where she lived in Lee Vining, Crestview and Bishop.
Evelyn was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star and received her 50-year pin several years ago. She was also a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the American Legion Auxiliary of Lee Vining. She enjoyed many years of square dancing and was an avid duplicate bridge player.
Besides being a wonderful mother and grandmother, she also enjoyed baking desserts, oil painting, creating ceramics and many crafts. She loved snowmobiling and fishing. Lately she was fascinated with her computer.
Evelyn will be fondly remembered for her graciousness and her beauty of both heart and face.
She was preceded in death by twin brothers who died at birth; her beloved husband, Charles Frederick Steppler; and her close friend, Adrian Conway.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Billie Crawford and her fiancé, John Pureell of Hemet; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Tom Paranick of Crowley Lake; grandchildren and their spouses, Jim and Katherine Crawford of Yucaipa, Denise and Dan Macaborski of Beaumont, Dan of Simi Valley; Mike and Ana of Irvine and Steve of Crowley Lake; and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle, Tanya, Kyle James, Jacob, Brandon, Michael, Kendall, Emma and Megan Jo.
Donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Hospice of the Owens Valley.
