Inyo Council for the Arts 5-14-2009 Dynamic songwriting, heartstopping vocals and music to match are all in store for Eastern Sierra music-lovers as the Inyo Council for the Arts welcomes two of the country’s most respected artists to its stage this week. Keith Greeninger and Dayan Kai, no strangers to fans of folk and indie music, have been invited to perform at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at the ICA at 137 S. Main St., Bishop. Greeninger is a seasoned troubadour, award-winning songwriter and unforgettable performer. As a solo artist, with his previous trio City Folk, he has toured the national Folk and Americana circuit extensively for the last decade and a half. His masterfully crafted songs and warm distinctive vocals have earned him the top songwriting awards at the Telluride Blue Grass Festival, The Kerrville Folk Festival and The Napa Valley Folk Festival. Weather leading his band or alone with just a guitar, Greeninger can completely captivate an audience. From the deep, laidback grooves of a soulful ballad to the righteous intensity of a hard-driving anthem his rich vocal range conveys strength tempered with vulnerability, political struggle reflected in personal experience, and a deep connection to the land, community, and family. A fourth-generation Northern Californian Greeninger has traveled and lived throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America. His music has been deeply influenced by his work with Native American and Latin cultures, and his songs cut an honest, hard worn path to places of simple truth about good people holding on to hope and instinct in a world that often tries to strip these things away.
Dayan Kai is a true musical force of nature. Born without sight, he began playing classical piano at the age of 2 and has since gone on to play a diverse array of musical instruments. With a harmonious voice most angels would trade their wings in for, Kai moves fluidly between strings, keys, winds and skins creating a rich musical backdrop for Greeninger’s expansive songwriting. Together these two artist create a rich and soulful sound that has moved audiences all over the country and has made them a favorite at venues and festivals throughout the U.S. and Canada.
