By Mike Gervais Register Staff 5-14-2009 A Shoshone resident is behind bars today facing a pile of charges, including attempted murder, after he rammed a neighbor’s home with his vehicle. David Eddy, 59, is being charged with two counts of attempted murder, two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two felony counts of making criminal threats, one felony count of vandalism and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence. He is being held at Inyo County Jail in Independence in lieu of $500,000 bail. According to the Inyo County District Attorney Art Maillet, Eddy had been served with an eviction notice from the Shoshone Trailer Park, which is owned and operated by the victims. “It is alleged that Mr. Eddy, in retaliation, said he was going to kill the victims,” Maillet said.
According to Inyo County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Carma Roper, “Inyo County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a report that Eddy had been wandering through the Shoshone Trailer Park with a knife, stating that he was going to kill everyone. Eddy opted to return to his fifth-wheel, deciding not to kill everyone in the trailer park, but rather narrow his focus on eliminating the couple responsible for his eviction.” Maillet said Eddy allegedly left the trailer park in his 2005 Dodge Magnum and “rammed the victim’s residence with his vehicle.” As the victims were reacting to the sound of the crash, Eddy allegedly got out of his car, holding a knife, “and again allegedly said he was going to kill the victims,” Maillet said. When officers arrived at the scene, Eddy was found wielding a large knife. He was taken into custody without incident and, fortunately, no one was injured in the encounter.
