Photo courtesy Laws Railroad Museum Register Staff 4-9-2009 A late-afternoon sun hovering above the crest of the storied Sierra Nevada will provide the perfect backdrop this summer for a special performance of David John & The Comstock Cowboys. Evening will be about to fall by the time the country-Western entertainers take the stage at Laws Railroad Museum outside of Bishop on June 20 for the museum’s second annual benefit concert. Gates to the grounds open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, but only a limited number are available, and organizers are expecting David John & The Comstock Cowboys to draw quite a bit of interest.
“The Comstock Cowboys continue to change music trends and the perception of Western and country music with their growing success and continued sense of humor,” said Laws Board Member Susan Cullen. “Each year their popularity grows and their fan club now boasts more than a thousand members.” Front man David John and the other members of the Comstock Cowboys have had the honor of opening for country legends such as Merle Haggard, Juice Newtown, Lacy J. Dalton, Michael Martin Murphy and Eddie Raven. A singer, songwriter, musician and playwright, John’s career has spanned from Nashville to L.A. and to the jungles of Vietnam as a U.S.O. entertainer. “His baritone voice is ideal for the music he loves best, songs of the cowboy,” Cullen said. “His songs are a blending of new and old; and tell of life, death, horses and cowboys; the way things were, and the way things should be. The skill of his performance has few rivals, as he delivers his songs from the heart.” Concert attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite chair and sit back for a great evening of entertainment on June 20. Link Stanley’s famous barbecue sandwiches will be available and the Bishop Sunrise Rotary Club will be selling beverages. Tickets are available by calling 873-5950, or may be purchased at Laws Museum or at the Inyo Council for the Arts.
