Inyo Council for the Arts, in cooperation with several members of Bishop’s art community, will host the Fifth Annual Downtown Art Walk on Saturday evening, Nov. 1. “This has been one of our key events for five years now,” said ICA Executive Director Lynn Cooper, “and it is always welcomed and received with great enthusiasm by the local galleries and the community.”
What’s an art walk? According to Cooper, the evening serves several important functions. First, the event is designed to bring members of the community together to enjoy and appreciate art in the Eastern Sierra. It’s also sort of an “open house” designed to invite people to visit area galleries and retail shops that feature local creations. “There are so many amazingly talented artists of all formats in our area. You have got to see them all to believe it. So that is why we have organized a night for all of these amazing artistic endeavors to be displayed,” Cooper said. “Finally, it’s just plain fun!” 2008 Art Walk Participants include Inyo Council for the Arts, Mountain Light Gallery, Serenity Pines Gallery, Spellbinder Books, Black Sheep Espresso Bar, Bishop Art Supply, Valley Florist & Stained Glass, Pegasus Art Gallery, Toucan Imports and Beads of Bishop. The Art Walk gets started at 5:30 p.m. and will end with a raffle at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person or free for Inyo County students. In addition to great art displays, each venue will offer refreshments and live musical performances. Also, as a welcome bonus, each ticket purchased for the art walk includes entry into the raffle. All galleries will also host a small silent auction, featuring items donated by the participants. Numerous talented local musicians will be providing a soundtrack to the evening in each of the gallery locations, including Pete Watercott with Neil Gelvin, Greg Smith with Dan Connor and Charlie Broten, Idle Hands Bluegrass Band, Victoria Campbell with Jean Johnson and Barbara Cote, Byron Fry and Eddy Evans, John Wehausen with Lo Lyness and Kim Milliron, and Brian Schuldt and Rebecca Hang of the Felici Trio.
