In one of its closest matches of the season, the Bishop tennis team barely edged out Mammoth 10-8 to remain undefeated in league play. End-of-the-match wins helped seal the victory for the Broncos. The first key win for Bishop came from the No. 3 doubles team of Shayla Tillotson and Lenai Munch. When the pair played their last match, the score was 7-8 Mammoth. But Tillotson and Munch were able to beat the Huskies’ No. 3, 6-1 and tied the match at 8-8.
Bishop would need one more win to take the match and Shayna Citrenbaum, Bishop’s No. 3 single, would help provide that victory by beating the No. 3 for Mammoth. The rest of the Broncos played well to keep the team in a position to win. Every player got at least one win in all their sets, which is key in tennis because in close matches it can go down to overall wins. “It was a close game and our team did what they needed to win games,” said Bishop head tennis coach Patty Cummings. Others getting set wins were the pair of Ana Cummings and Katie Hudson who won all their games. Cummings is still undefeated. Katie Campbell also stays perfect as she and her partner Britney Erwin won all their games. Also getting a win for the Broncos was Ali Ostergard, who beat Mammoth’s No. 2. Bishop stays undefeated with two games left in league and will play at home against Desert at 2 p.m. Saturday.
