The Broncos talked during the week about what they needed to do get back on track, and they decided it was preparation and working hard, said Bishop head coach Bill Egan. “We talked about how we needed more effort,” Egan said. The Broncos also worked on their defense this week, as defensive coach Alan Partridge gave the team a new strategy and it paid off.

Photo by Kellie Caparula The Bishop defense was on fire, getting their hands on the football often, deflecting many passes and intercepting four. Bishop’s smothering defense was able to hold the Roadrunners to three points in the first half. The Broncos offense also came to play after only scoring once last week. Bishop had a big drive early and was able to get field goal by Chino Santana. Tim Berrey added a first quarter score for Bishop from a 40-yard pass. Berrey had a standout game, scoring two TDs for the Broncos and getting an interception. Rosamond came out hard in the second half, blocking a Broncos punt and running it back for a touchdown, to make the score 16-10. But Bishop did not let that stand with Santana scoring a touchdown with 4:31 to go in the third quarter. The Broncos followed that with an interception by Chance Erwin that moved the team within 33 yards of its end zone. Aaron Puls finished the play, scoring Bishop’s final touchdown with 23 seconds left in the game. With the win, Bishop improves to 2-4. After the game, Egan said that he has players who are now realizing they are good and because of that they are playing well. “We had a lot of boys that stood up and played,” he said. Egan hopes his players step up on the road as Bishop has yet to get a road win. Two of Bishop’s final three games are on the road. Next week the Broncos have a bye, but will travel to Kern Valley Oct. 30.
