Lothar K. Grotzki 1914-2008
Funeral services may be held at a later date for 29-year Eastern Sierra resident Lothar K. Grotzki. Born in Lissa-Posen, Germany on April 22, 1914, Lothar died Aug. 7, 2008 in Bishop. He was 94. Lothar died after a perfect day with his son, enjoying a wonderful lunch and glass of wine at Bishop Creek Lodge. He was a resident for several years in Mammoth Lakes prior to moving down to Paradise. He worked for five years as a gondolameister at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. Lothar is survived by his son, Michael of Paradise; sister-in-law, Ludgard Grotzki; various distant relatives in Germany; and many friends in Mammoth Lakes and Bishop.
James ‘Jim’ Grey Simpson 1942-2008
Per his wished, no services will be held for five-year Bishop resident James “Jim” Grey Simpson. Born in Fullerton on May 10, 1942, Jim died Aug. 8, 2008 at Bishop Care Center. He was 66. Jim loved fishing and enjoyed the beautiful Sierra. He also enjoyed going to the Paiute Palace where he became a “great blackjack player.” He is survived by his wife, Shirley Simpson of Bishop; two sons, Douglas Simpson of Bishop and Jacob Simpson of Long Beach; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Gray of Long Beach; and numerous friends.
Arthur ‘Art’ Stein 1924-2008
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18 at Grace Lutheran Church in Bishop for 21-year Bishop resident Arthur “Art” Stein. Pastor Kenton Puls will officiate. Interment will be at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles. Born in Oakland on June 30, 1924, Art died Aug. 13, 2008 at San Joaquin Hospital in Bakersfield. Art was a life member of the American Legion and the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Art is survived by his wife, Doris “Jean” Stein of Bishop; children, Steven A. Stein of Flagstaff, Ariz., Pamela J. Colborg of Grandbury, Texas, Marjorie L. Miner of Fredricksburg, Va. and Scott G. Stein of Palmdale; sisters, Marjorie A. Powell of Lancaster and Linda Tropani of Penn Valley; brother, Charles E. Stein of Cedaredge, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
