The final day of regular season softball left Eastern Sierra Pest Management (ESPM) tied for first in the win-loss column with the Geezers, but ESPM took first on head to head play. Thursday’s games began with the Posse taking on the Geezers. The Geezers started slowly, with infield grounders resulting in quick outs. The Posse led 5-1 after their half of the third inning, but that was their last hurrah. The Geezers scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-5 lead and they never looked back after that. They scored five more runs in the fifth and another five in the sixth inning to the Posse’s one run.

Photo by Stan Conger The Geezers is a somewhat deceptive team name, since almost all of their players are young and fast. This was a factor in the game as the Posse was unable to turn several double play opportunities due to that speed. The final score left the Geezers on top by a 16-6 advantage. They then ha d to wait for the outcome of the second game to find out if they would be tied with first place ESPM in the win-loss column, although they knew that a loss by the first place team would not elevate them any further in the standings. ESPM had all they could handle and more against third place Ken Carpenter Construction (KCC) during the second game of the evening. It was close, but KCC came out on top by a 10-8 margin, with the victory giving them the satisfaction of beating the top team on the final day of the regular season and the knowledge that the team they beat had also bested the second place Geezers. Men’s Division play continues with a double elimination tournament that begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12. All games will be played at the Bishop City Park softball field.
