An aerial reconnaissance of the Clover Fire in the Southern Sierra on Sunday identified only three interior hot spots – two of which the U.S. Forest Service deemed “no threat” as they were well within the control line of the blaze – and captured this image of the charred earth in the Inyo National Forest caused by the 15,300-acre fire. The third hot spot was located at the head of Tunawee Canyon at the southeast corner of the fire and is being held by firefighters. With the blaze more than 70 percent contained, the Forest Service predicted the Clover Fire would be fully contained Tuesday, July 15. There are currently 69 firefighters and three helicopters working on the final stages of the blaze. “The fire is looking just fine,” said Planning Operations Chief George Johnson on Monday, noting that portions of the Pacific Crest Trail are still closed due to the blaze, however Kennedy Meadows Campground is now open to the public.
