1919-2008

No funeral services will be held for former Bishop resident Carey Tompkins. His ashes were buried at the V.A. Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore.
Born March 10, 1919, Carey died May 4, 2008 at his home in Medford, Ore. He was 89.
Carey retired from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, where he worked for most of his life.
He moved to Medford seven years ago from Bishop to be closer to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Slemsek) Tompkins; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Hanson; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Cyndi Tompkins; son and daughter-in-law, Jak and Vickie Tompkins; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ W. Crom
1962-2008

A family gathering to receive friends will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday July 2 at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home in Basking Ridge New Jersey to celebrate the life of Lawrence “Larry” W. Crom. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Bishop.
 Born in Ridgecrest on Oct. 16, 1962, Larry died on June 27, 2008 while Scuba Diving in the St. Lawrence Seaway. He was 45.
Larry was raised in Bishop and graduated from Bishop Union High School with the class of 1981. He has traveled across the world and has lived in many locations, including Washington, Germany, Romania and New Jersey.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his discharge, Larry worked in the telecommunications industry and was employed as a Group Manager for Verizon. Larry graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2006.
Larry loved being in and on the water. During his high school days he set records while on the swim team. He enjoyed all kinds of boats, especially sailing, but his true passion was scuba diving.
He was a member of Diver’s Alert Network (DAN) and a former member of the Lions Club in Bishop.
Larry was a devoted husband, father and friend.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Kathryn E. Crom, of Millington, N.J.; son, Talmage D. Crom of Millington, N.J.; mother and father, Virginia and Frank Crom of Bishop; sister, Dana Crom of Bishop; and many other family members and friends.
