Crash report still pending

September 21, 2010

The much anticipated final report into the fatal vehicle accident that occurred Aug. 9 on U.S. 395 is still pending, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Laura Roberts. She said the release of the report is expected to take months, perhaps not until December.
Roberts said the investigation is still hinging on final reports from the multi-agency investigation team. The MAIT is currently busy with multiple major accidents throughout the state and can only complete one investigation at a time, Roberts said.
The CHP did release the name of the driver of the Ford Expedition SUV, Natalie Elizabeth Nield, of Carlsbad, who would have turned 18 years old on Aug. 12. The CHP estimated the SUV was traveling at 65 mph when it strayed from its southbound lane outside of Bishop and struck one of three northbound vans, head-on, carrying members of a Southern California cross-country team.
In all, three people were killed, including the driver of the van and a second passenger in the SUV, and 16 were injured.
