Owens River Dems
The Owens River Democratic Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. This month, the club will have a picnic at the covered patio at the back (east) end of Bishop City Park. This is a potluck, so bring a dish to share. As usual, all ORDC meetings are open to the public.

Sunrise Rotary

Bishop Fire District
The regular monthly meeting of the Bishop Rural Fire Protection District will be held at 2 p.m. at the Bishop Fire Department, 209 W. Line St. These meetings are open to the public. TGIF at the Park
The Bishop Elks Lodge will hold a TGIF dinner at the Elks Park on West Line Street in Bishop beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dinner includes teriyaki chicken, rice, veggie, roll and watermelon for a $10 donation. Bar opens at 3 p.m. and all Elks and their guests are invited to attend.
 
Brown Bag Lunch
Join Eastern Sierra Land Trust at noon for the September Brown Bag Lunch Series with Executive Director Karen Ferrell-Ingram, who will lead a discussion on the future of the region. Topics will include: What are the greatest opportunities for enhancing our region; what are the greatest threats; an

Saturday, Sept. 4

Manzanar Program
Cory Shiozaki and Richard Imamura will give a talk at 11 a.m. and walking tour at 1 p.m. today and tomorrow at Manzanar National Historic Site, 5001 Hwy. 395, six miles south of Independence. The pair will bring Manzanar’s fishing stories to life, showing slides and footage from their upcoming film, “From Barbed Wire to Barbed Hooks,” followed by an opportunity for questions and answers. Rethink Your Drink
Forty-one percent of children ages 2-11 drink at least one sugary soda per day. Families with children from birth through age 5 are invited to Rethink Your Drink every Monday through Oct. 25. For every week of the campaign that participating children don’t drink soda, they can claim a free prize at the First 5 office at 568 W. Line St., Bishop.
