Delbert Chambers
1953-2010

Memorial services for Delbert Chambers will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Lone Pine Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Louise Murguia will officiate. Burial will be private.
Del was born in South Bend, Ind. on Aug. 24, 1917, and died at his home in Lone Pine at the age of 92 on Aug. 8, 2010.
Del moved to Lone Pine in 1952 to take a position as teacher at Lo-Inyo Elementary School.  The next year he met and married Lucile Kissee. They would have been married 57 years this December.  Together they have five children.  As an elementary teacher, Del taught several grades and several generations of children. Although not a music teacher, he emphasized music in all his classrooms, as he believed music to be the foundation to an enjoyable life.
Not content with solely being a teacher, he and Lucile owned a variety store they called CPS Variety. Along with a sundry of items, he made sure he had a supply of musical instruments to rent to children so they could participate in the music program at school. Before, during and after his tenure as a teacher, Del filled his life with activities that reflected his commitment to the community. He will always be known as the organist at the Lone Pine Nazarene Church where the sound of his organ set the mood and the spirit of the service each Sunday. The residents of the local convalescent homes and fellow seniors at the Senior Center were often entertained by Del and his organ; sometimes accompanied by a vocalist. Often, one could find Del deeply engrossed in a game of chess.
