Stephen Sawka
1924-2010


Funeral services will be held today for 30-year Bishop resident Stephen Sawka.
Born Aug. 28, 1924 in New York City, Stephen died March 3, 2010 at the Bishop Care Center. He was 85.
Stephen enjoyed the arts, sciences and literature. He traveled to many countries and eventually chose Bishop as his home due to its spectacular mountains and hiking opportunities.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Sawka Doria and Irene Marie Haag; and his granddaughter, Triana Doria.

Bertha Louise Prange
1916-2010


Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for 43-year Owens Valley resident Bertha Louise Prange. Pastor Kent Puls will officiate.
Born June 23, 1916 in Ethel, Ark., Louise died March 1, 2010 at the Bishop Care Center. She was 93.
Louise was an amazing Godly woman who loved her family and friends. She impacted many lives with her multiple talents, whether it was sewing clothes for her grandchildren, making blankets for her church or writing caring and encouraging notes to her family and friends. She had a knack for writing about her family adventures and life in general.
She was a blessing to all her family.
Louise was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a caring, devoted and kind person who loved the Lord.
Louise is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Lynn Williams; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Linda Prange; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Nancy Prange; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces, Bernice, Polly and Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise’s memory may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Donald Jack Beauregard
1927-2010


Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4 at the Latter-Day Saints Stake Center at 701 Locust Ln. in Moab, Utah for Donald Jack Beauregard. Friends may greet the family from 10:30-10:50 a.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be at 12:15 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2651 Spanish Valley Dr. in Moab, Utah.
Born in Bishop on Nov. 11, 1927 to Archie Eugene and Elva Wheeler Beauregard, Donald, a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend died Feb. 24, 2010 at the VA Medical Center and Community Living Center in Grand Junction, Colo. from complications due to pancreatic cancer. He was 82.
Donald attended Bishop Union High School.
In 1945, at the age of 17, Donald joined the U.S. Navy and served until 1949. He was a machinist Mate 2nd Class, stationed aboard two destroyers, the USS Stack and the USS Hollister. During his service, he participated in “Operation Crossroads,” ordered by Joint Chiefs of Staff to test the effect of the atomic bomb on naval vessels. The two atomic bomb tests were conducted at the Bikini Atoll, Marshal Islands.

Irma Baker Garner
1915-2010


Services will be held at a later date for former Big Pine resident Irma Baker Garner. Private cremation was held at Eternal Hills Crematory in Klamath Falls, Ore. A private burial was held at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens in Klamath Falls.
Born on Jan. 26, 1915 on the Baker Ranch in Big Pine, to George and Mary Heinz Baker, Irma died Tuesday, Feb. 9 in Klamath Falls. She was 95.
Irma graduated from Big Pine High School as valedictorian in 1932. Her family sold the Baker Ranch and moved to Fontana, where she attended Chaffee Junior Collage and Pomona College. In 1945 Irma was hired as secretary to the dean of men and women at Fullerton Junior College. A position she held until her retirement in 1971. She moved with her husband, Denver, to the Agency Lake, Ore. area in 1976.
Irma was a well known photographer. Her photos accompanied her husband’s many hunting and dog training articles.
At the age of six months she traveled to the Baker Ranch high country summer range by way of pack mule; the first of many trips with her father, George Baker.
At the age of five she named Thunder and Lighting lakes in the High Sierra.
Irma was an exceptional pianist. At the age of 12 she made $3 every Friday evening playing the piano for the silent move theater. She said many times how fortunate she was to be raised in the beautiful rough rugged Sierra and spent her later years in the beautiful smooth flowing Cascades. Irma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Denver.
She is survived by her stepsons, and daughter-in-Law, Richard Garner and John and Nancy Garner; and four grandchildren.
