County seeks to work with non-permitted construction
Thursday, 20 November 2008
Building inspector Rick McManis has his hands full.

“Dealing with construction in a county that is 3,300 square miles and only having three people is a bit of a challenge,” McManis said. “You find out some interesting things people have done on their properties without permits.”

McManis said they are finding many remote areas which have people working on their houses without getting the appropriate paperwork filled out by the county.

But McManis isn't phased. He sees this as an opportunity to educate the public via the media about the possibility of implementing an amnesty program.

“We can extend amnesty to those people who have done without permits,” McManis said. “We will work with the people and make sure they can legalize everything they've done. It's a tremendous outreach opportunity to get everyone on board with what is required for construction.” – SP
