Double D falls to BSers

July 14, 2014

A definite trend is developing at Bishop City Park’s ball field. Of the two teams warming up and setting their batting order, one of the two is a “sure bet” winner. OK, the sure bet usually does win, but the underdog, though trailing up to the final innings, puts on an impressive drive, closes in on the eventual winner and keeps the game interesting.

The Outdoorsman: Intake II, South Lake by float tube are the hot spots

June 19, 2014

Summer is official on June 21, but if you asked the high country lakes it got here a week or two ago. Over the past week I have been hiking high passes and Piute and Bishop pass lakes are all ice-free, at last. The fish in these high country lakes are hungry and offering up some real consistent fishing.

Inderbieten on her way to Nationals

The final night of the California High School Rodeo Association Finals was a good one for local barrel racer Kayla Inderbieten.
The sophomore at Bishop High School came in with a strong second place finish after two gos, qualifying for the short go at the Tri-County Fairgrounds’ Mike Boothe Arena. There was a strong local contingent in the stands cheering her on as she entered the stadium for the final run.

Tight Lines: Fishing places and partners

June 13, 2014

It’s time to wrap up my list of fishing waters I want to explore during this season.
Making memories with fishing partners is a big part of fishing. Most of the time we fish in solitude, to be shared on the walk back to the vehicle or on the ride home.
Saddle Bag Creek reminds me of the small creeks in Southern California where I learned to fly fish.
