BCC Ladies May update

June 13, 2011

May 3 found the Bishop Country Club Ladies playing a Par 3s and 5s tournament, where only those specific holes counted, using half handicap.
First flight winners were Carolyn Poindexter in first with a 29.5, Sue Stavlo with a 33 in second. Second flight was carded wtih Diane Hoffman in first place at 31 and Del McDaniel in second also with a 31.Third flight winners were Shirley Bement in first with a 30 and Marilyn Hoijer in second with a 31.
Andrea O’Connell from Mammoth was welcomed as a new member and captured least putt honors with 30 putts for her debut.

Athletes swim, bike, run for Bishop Swim Team triathlon

Nearly 70 athletes swam, biked and ran their way around Bishop City Park Saturday morning, all to benefit the Bishop Swim Team.
The event, organized by team coach Mel Beard, was divided into four categories. Sprint competitors swam 20 laps, or 500 yards, biked a 12-mile loop and finished off with a 3.7-mile run.
The “Kids Full Distance” event included a 200-yard swim, 3-mile bike race and 1-mile run. “Kids Mini” competition included a 100-yard swim, 1-mile ride and 1/2-mile run. The smallest of athletes opted for the Xtra Mini: 50-yard swim, 1/2-mile bike ride and 1/4-mile run.

Special Rodeo part of CHSRA week

The Special Rodeo is a rodeo within a rodeo.
Scheduled for Thursday, June 16 at 6 p.m., in the middle of the California High School Rodeo Association’s state finals week at the Tri-County Fairgrounds, the Special Rodeo focuses on giving cowboys and cowgirls with special needs a chance to compete in modified rodeo events.
The CHSRA’s Special Rodeo allows high school rodeo athletes to work one on one with children in a rodeo where all contestants become champions.

New records set at High Sierra Ultras

More than 290 runners registered for the 18th annual Bishop High Sierra Ultra-marathons, held on May 21, beginning and finishing at the Millpond Recreational Park.
Runners travelled from all over the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia to participate in the 20-mile Fun Run, 50K, 50-mile and 100K events.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Northern Inyo Hospital Foundation, which will be very involved in projects at the new Hospital building. This year’s donation will bring the total funds raised from the last 16 races to over $105,000.

The Bishop Broncos junior varsity baseball team ended their season with a 15-10 win, May 10, over the Rosamond Roadrunners, clinching the High Desert League JV championship with a 7-0 league record.

Broncos a perfect 10

Friday afternoon, the Bishop Broncos played for pride; the Frazier Mountain Falcons played for third place in High Desert League and a spot in the CIF baseball playoffs. Pride won out.
The Broncos ended their season with a perfect 10-0 record after the 13-3 victory over the Falcons in Frazier.
“I was so proud of the team all week,” said coach Tim Reid. “Everybody was drained both physically and mentally.”
The Frazier Mountain game was the third away game in five days for Bishop.

Mixed results for Bishop Broncos softball teams

The Bishop Lady Broncos softball teams came home from Rosamond Tuesday with a JV win and a varsity loss.
The final league games will be played today against the Desert Scorpions.
It took just five innings for the JV team to beat the Roadrunners, 15-4.
The trouncing went a long way to avenge the Broncos’ 16-11 loss to Rosamond in mid-April. That loss was the last defeat for the Broncos who head to the final league game today at Desert with a 6-2 record, 14-3 overall.

Broncos: HDL champions

The Bishop Broncos travelled to Rosamond Tuesday for a rematch with the Roadrunners. The game was pivotal, assuring Bishop the High Desert League championship and, potentially, keeping the team in the top four for CIF baseball playoffs.
The Broncos clinched the first with a 7-3 win over Rosamond. The playoff schedule will be announced Sunday. The Broncos have one more league game, an away match today with the Desert Scorpions who have yet to see a win in league play.
