“We came out a little flat in the first two innings,” said coach Liz Jones who chalked the flatness up to the team “just making the coach nervous.”
Lone Pine took off in the third, burying the Mustangs with hits.
The Eagles, 3-2, are third in Desert Mountain League, nipping at the heels of the Boron at 5-0 and Vasquez, 4-1. Lone Pine heads to Vasquez tomorrow.

Both teams are now 2-2, behind the undefeated Frazier Mountain Falcons and the Rosamond Roadrunners at 3-1. Bishop faces Rosamond at home this afternoon.
“We had three hours of batting practice Saturday,” said coach Tim Reid. “After a tough week, that helped get us back on track, helped us regain our confidence. We’ll be ready for Rosamond.”
“We’re in a slump,” he said. “We need to start hitting the ball and take the pressure off the pitcher.”

Lady Eagles on a roll with back-to-back routs over Trojans and Huskies

April 17, 2013

The Lone Pine Lady Golden Eagles have been on a rampage, demolishing the Silver Valley Trojans 18-7 last Friday and sending the Mammoth Lady Huskies yelping back up the mountain Tuesday with a 23-8 win.
The Silver Valley win came after Lone Pine’s two-week spring break but there no signs of rust on the Eagles.
“We came out pretty strong,” said coach Liz Jones, “with 6 clean infield outs and only 2 errors.”
Amanda Barlese, with 4 hits on 5 at-bats, and Lacie Jones, at 3 for 4, led the hitting streak. “We racked up a total of 14 hits,” said Jones.

Lone Pine on a roll in DML action

April 17, 2013

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles nine have turned the corner, logging back-to-back wins over Silver Valley (8-1) last week and over the Mammoth Huskies (16-6) Tuesday.
The corner turned was the nasty error corner. The Eagles have solid pitching and strong offense, but until the game with the Silver Valley Trojans, have been plagued by defensive errors.
“We had no errors against Silver Valley,” said coach Mike Button.
The win avenges the Eagles’ season-opening loss, 10-13, to the Trojans last month, a defeat that was rife with errors.

Broncos lose to Falcons

April 17, 2013

It was great weather for basketball at Frazier Mountain Tuesday as the Bishop Broncos nine got blown off the side of the hill with a 2-10 loss, the team’s first High Desert League loss since the 2009-10 season.
“It sounds worse than it really was,” said coach Tim Reid. “We didn’t play that badly, we just made some defensive mistakes. You can’t make mistakes against that good a team.
“Some positive things happened. We fought to the end and that’s a good thing to see.”
