Broncos muzzle Huskies

September 16, 2014

The Bishop Broncos football team and the crowd were up for the first home game of the season Friday night – the traditional match-up with the Mammoth Huskies.
One has to choose one’s words tactfully. There are strong friendships and a lot of history between the two schools. As Bronco coach Bill Egan said, “I’m great friends with the Mammoth coaches; I root for them every week, except for this one game.”
But, sorry guys, the Broncos wiped up the field with the Huskies. Bishop shut out Mammoth, 50-0.

Lady Broncos: 1st at Mammoth Tourney

September 16, 2014

The Bishop Lady Broncos headed to Mammoth for the annual volleyball tournament last Friday and came home with the tournament championship.
“I’m happy for the program,” said coach Linda Frigerio, “happy for the team. It’s nice to see us getting better and better.” Over the past three years, the Broncos have progressed from third place at the tourney, to second with last year’s team and now they’ve claimed the title. The final matches were played back to back against the Yosemite High School Badgers.

Fly fishing from heaven

August 28, 2014

For the past few months, I have been hearing and seeing reviews for Tenkara fly fishing rods and had been hoping to give one a try. I enjoy the challenge of a new skill but I like to get all the help I can when learning it. So this past week I linked up with fly fishing guide and Tenkara instructor Pat Jaeger at Eastern Sierra Guide Service to have him show me the ropes.
Pat and I went out and threw some flies with some of his Tenkara setups on the Lower Owens River and I learned a few things about Tenkara fishing.

Fishing Report

Lake Sabrina
A bit of wind, a dip in temps, shorter days, a spot of color here and there, a lack of children during the week – could it mean that fall is just around the corner? But first, we have the last holiday weekend of summer, Labor Day and the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fair.
Fishing this week was on and off. Saw some nice stringers leaving the lake and some not so nice stringers. Anglers not catching fish can come on into the store and get some advice.

Broncos football, volleyball sneak peak

August 26, 2014

The Bishop Broncos football squads will start their season this Friday under a new program, one that similar sized schools have used for a while.
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams will be practicing together and partially sharing the coaching staff. “It brings the teams closer,” said head coach Bill Egan. “Schools like Sierra Canyon and Paraclete have been using this program; it puts the emphasis on consistency and experience.”
