Reno rock band performing Friday

Reno-based rock band The Kanes will be making a much-anticipated stop in Bishop this week on their Northwest Tour.
The trio, fresh on the success of their 2013 album “Black Magic,” will be performing a free, all-ages show at Raymond’s Deli tomorrow Friday, March 14. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and The Kanes perform at 8. Lena Graves will open.
“Black Magic” has received critical success, and was awarded Top Local Album of 2013 by the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Online reviews have been just as positive.

Artistic skills being explored at OV Camp 26

An airplane swooping down, a helicopter making a water drop on the ground, a bulldozer and men with hand tools ready to secure a line around the fire – where is all this shown?
These scenes and others are shown on an approximately 45-foot by 8-foot mural painted by two inmates on the wall in the cafeteria at CalFire Conservation Camp 26 in Round Valley. The camp is operated by the California Department of Corrections in cooperation with CalFire.

Adventure photographer and author Andy Selters is taking his acclaimed documentary to Mammoth Lakes next weekend.
Beginning at 7 p.m. at Edison Theater, Selters will present “Mountains of the Blue Sheep: A Journey Beyond the Himalaya,” a stunning and not-to-miss inside look at a recent expedition to a previously unexplored area at the northern tip of India.
The live multi-media presentation is a visual and auditory journey to a far, seldom-visited corner of the world – what Selters describes as a “vastness of mountains and glaciers that shelters people and wildlife in ancient patterns.”

His latest product, under development for several years, is at the mercy of the new management. He walks into an executive meeting, telling his partners and team that some of them would be retained, and the rest downsized by Christmas. There is the expected defeated silence in the room.

Dennis Regan to perform ‘LIVE!’ in Bishop

Stand-up comedy courtesy a national headliner and live musical numbers by local performers will combine next weekend at Playhouse 395’s largest fundraising event in several years.
Dennis Regan, a self-proclaimed purveyor of “clean, corporate comedy,” will bring the laughs to the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The event, “LIVE!,” is restricted to residents and visitors ages 18 and older and includes food, drink, raffles and silent auctions.

Mountain Mike’s Meaty Grilled Cheese Sandwich

2 slices of sourdough, rye or multi-grain bread
1-2 strips bacon, lean, thick-sliced, maple-smoked (optional) pork, turkey, beef or vegetarian all work equally well)
Cheddar, Swiss and Gouda cheese, very thinly sliced
2 slices medium-sized meaty tomato, set aside on paper towel to remove excess juice
1 tsp. butter (optional)
pepper, salt, granulated garlic
1. Fry bacon to desired crispness. Remove from pan, pour out some of the drippings. Or wipe out quickly with a paper towel, depending on amount of crispiness desired on outside of sandwich.
2.Turn pan down to medium low.

Grilled Sourdough with Pepper Jack, Tomato and Basil

Grilled Sourdough with Pepper Jack, Tomato and Basil
4 slices sourdough bread Fresh basil
4 slices pepper jack cheese Tomato slices
Butter Ortega chiles (optional)
Butter outside slices of bread. Heat skillet. Assemble 1 slice of cheese, then tomato, then basil, add other cheese slice and top with bread. Cook slowly until cheese is melted and bread is crispy. I also like to add Ortega chiles. If you have kids who are picky eaters, use a cookie cutter before cooking to cut into kid-friendly shapes that are easy for them to hold. Enjoy.
