Kern Valley has been in the Bishop softball teamâs crosshairs since, probably, forever.
Friday afternoon at Lake Isabella, the Lady Broncos scored that long-awaited hit, taking down the Broncs, 3-1 to stay perfect in High Desert League play, tied 4-0 with Rosamond.
That tie will be broken this afternoon as Bishop hosts the Lady Roadrunners at City Park. First pitch: 3:15 p.m.
âWe had great pitching,â said coach Stacy Van Nest. âWe out hit the Broncs and played solid defense. I am so proud of our team for their great effort.â

Lone Pineâs Lady Golden Eagles leveled the Mojave Mustangs on the road Friday with a big 17-1 win.
âWe came out a little flat in the first two innings,â said coach Liz Jones who chalked the flatness up to the team âjust making the coach nervous.â
Lone Pine took off in the third, burying the Mustangs with hits.
The Eagles, 3-2, are third in Desert Mountain League, nipping at the heels of the Boron at 5-0 and Vasquez, 4-1. Lone Pine heads to Vasquez tomorrow.

The Bishop Broncos fell to the Kern Valley Broncs, 0-8, Friday afternoon.
Both teams are now 2-2, behind the undefeated Frazier Mountain Falcons and the Rosamond Roadrunners at 3-1. Bishop faces Rosamond at home this afternoon.
âWe had three hours of batting practice Saturday,â said coach Tim Reid. âAfter a tough week, that helped get us back on track, helped us regain our confidence. Weâll be ready for Rosamond.â
âWeâre in a slump,â he said. âWe need to start hitting the ball and take the pressure off the pitcher.â

The Big Pine Lady Warriors played a tough double header against the Immanuel Christian Crusaders Friday afternoon.
The Warriors were shut out, 0-13, in game one and went down swinging at 2-20 in game two.
Big Pine took the field with only eight players. Each time the injured player, Lorena Rico, came up in the batting order, the Warriors recorded an out giving them a serious up hill battle through the afternoon.

With Earth Day approaching on April 22, Inyo County Waste Management Director Scott Eagan gave local leaders an overview of local recycling and diversion program and asked for any ideas and suggestions.
The Inyo County Board of Supervisors was told Tuesday that the county and its residents are able to divert 26 percent of the countyâs waste from the landfills through recycling anything from wood, tires and paper, to electrical waste and food products that are composted.

Margaret Emily Reynolds
1921-2013
Lifelong Bishop resident Margaret Emily Reynolds, age 92, born in Bishop on Feb. 12, 1921, passed away April 8, 2013 at the Bishop Care Center.
Emily was an LVN and worked at Northern Inyo Hospital for 35 years.
She is survived by her sons, Brent Reynolds of Bishop, Gordon Reynolds of San Diego and Jerry Reynolds of Florida; grandchildren, Sean Reynolds of Roseville, Joshua Reynolds of Sunland and Bethany Dunning of La Crescenta; and brother-in-law, Harry Reynolds of Bishop.
Sandee Hodapp
1957-2013
Sandee Hodapp, 55, resident of Thousand Oaks for 37 years, born in Oxnard on April 29, 1957, passed away on April 12, 2013 at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Hodapp of Thousand Oaks, and daughter, Heather Hodapp of San Diego; parents, John and Betty Young of Bishop; sister, Terri Hawley of Pueblo, Colo.; brother, Gary Young of Bishop; and sister-in-law, Rochelle Young of Bishop.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 20, 2013 in Simi Valley.

An ongoing collaboration between the city and the community of Bishop is continuing to breathe life into a major street improvement project and now the public can get a Technicolor peek into the possible future of a new main street.
Full-color art sketches and conceptional drawings depicting how possible Warren Street Improvement Project design elements might converge for a new look at Bishopâs proposed new main street are available for public viewing at City Hall and on the Public Works page at www.ca-bishop.us.
About 700 residents attended the 17th annual ICARE fundraiser dinner held last weekend at the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds, raising $30,000 for a new county animal shelter.
Animal lovers who gathered at the event were treated to a catered dinner, live and silent auctions and raffles.
Dinner was catered by Whiskey Creek, thanks to sponsorships from Union Bank of California, Sierra Wave Media and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The meal was served by local 4-H Club members.

Two dry years in the Eastern Sierra and a Southern California Edison project that required the lake to be drained has Lake Sabrina west of Bishop looking like an alien moonscape.
Sabrina, a favorite destination in the Sierra, is currently so low that it has reverted back to being two separate natural lakes, and the smaller of the two is nearly dry.
What that means for next weekendâs fishing opener remains to be seen, but Sabrina Lake Boat Landing owner Juanita Apted is optimistic.
