Francisca Belem Rael
1939-2010
Funeral services were held Oct. 22, 2010 in Grand Junction, Colo. for Belem Rael.
Born Feb. 7, 1939 in Durango, Mexico, Belem died Oct. 15, 2010 in Monticello, Utah.
Belem was a homemaker and a wonderful mom, nana and great-grandmother. The family said she will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Rael, Sr., in April 2002 and was laid to rest next to him.

The future leaders and decision-makers of Inyo and Mono counties – high school students – voted in a mock election on Thursday. The exercise is a way to introduce the soon-to-be voters to the process and for the local electorate to hear and see what the local youth have to say on matters.
Students of all grades, but mostly seniors, voted on four ballot measures, the California gubernatorial race and the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Barbara Boxer.

Special guest speaker Linda McMillan will lead a conference starting at 9 a.m. Thursday that will explore ways of trying to turn public land users into public lands stewards.
The conference and discussion, âBuilding Connections to Success,â is being sponsored by the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Associationâs Public Lands Partnership Program along with the Inyo National Forest and Bureau of Land Managementâs Bishop Field Office.

Voters across the state today will be weighing in on nine ballot measures, selecting local representatives to serve in the House of Representatives, State Senate and State Assembly as well as voting for a new governor.
Locally, residents in the City of Bishop will weigh in on the controversial chicken measure that will determine whether citizens can raise poultry and rabbits within the city limits.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

Newt Parker Elsdon
1916-2010
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Brune Mortuary Chapel in Bishop for 55-year Bishop resident Newt Parker Elsdon. Private burial will follow at the East Line Street Cemetery.
Born July 29, 1916 in Los Angeles to Emma G. MacDonald Parker and Julian Elsworth Parker, Newt died peacefully surrounded by family friends on Oct. 28, 2010 at the Bishop Care Center.
Angela Patricia Mann
1917-2010
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1 at St. Pius X Church, 209 S. Williams St. in Moberly, Mo. for Angela Patricia Mann.
Angela was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Watsonville to Emile and Pearl Strazicich. She lived in California nearly all her life until moving to Missouri with her daughter, Dorothy Mann, in 2001.
She has resided with Dorothy in Clifton Hill, Mo. for several years.

Local advocates for access to public lands hit a speed bump recently with their dual-access route program, but the team is determined to motor on.
The nonprofit group Advocates for Access to Public Lands is working on a plan called the Eastern Sierra Adventure Trails System that will allow licensed drivers to take green-sticker vehicles on state and county roads to reach off-road destinations.

The retired Reverend Caddy Jackson has proposed a way of transforming the entire community by combatting its single biggest problem â substance abuse. More specifically, he wants to cut the effects of substance abuse in half in 10 years.

The Lady Eagles are still undefeated after facing down the Desert Christian Knights on Saturday and the Mohave Mustangs Tuesday.
The Lone Pine volleyball team is 11-0 in Desert Mountain League and has a 20-3 overall record.
The Eagles tamed the winless Mustangs in a dominating three-game sweep. As a team, Lone Pine served 68/74 (92-percent) and had 22 aces.
According to coach Mel Joseph, the Eagles were able to try some different line-up combinations in preparation for the last three DML matches.
Charles ‘Chuck’ Potterville
1927-2010
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Highlands Mobile Home Park Adult Community Building for Charles “Chuck” Potterville.
Born July 25, 1927 in Salida, Colo. to Fred and Jessie Potterville, Chuck died peacefully at his home on Oct. 21, 2010 surrounded by his family and friends. He was 83.
