Bishop Broncos soccer squad overtook the Burroughs High Burros last Saturday 3-2.
The score of the game was closer than the play on the field, according to coach John McGurke
Two mistakes out of the back gave Burroughs their scoring chances, otherwise Bishop controlled the majority of the possession.
Bishop scored the first two goals before Burroughs tied it up at half time.
A third goal by midfielder Ignacio Santana midway through the second half proved to be the game winner.

The Bishop Lady Broncos hosted the Burros from Burroughs High School last Saturday and came away with a 6-1 victory.
Bishop got off to a quick start with team captain Alex Tillemans scoring two minutes into the game.
Eva Bohg scored on a breakaway and Yessenia Mora scored off an assist from Betty-Jo Whitman.
Bianca Sandoval made the fourth and last goal of the half on a nice breakaway from the right side.
The Burros would score their lone goal in the first half, making the half time score 4-1 Broncos.
The Broncos held the Burros scoreless in the second half.
Donald ‘Don’ Arthur Leavitt
1934-2010
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 for Donald “Don” Arthur Leavitt at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 162 Sneden St., Bishop.
Born March 21, 1934 in Meridan, Conn., Don died Dec. 11, 2010 at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno following a brief illness.
Norma Kathleen Reynolds
1944-2010
No funeral services have been announced for Norma Kathleen Reynolds.
Born Oct. 16, 1944 in Salina, Utah, Norma, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, suddenly died Dec. 10, 2010 in Bishop. Her untimely and quick death was caused by a blood clot that reached her heart.
Donald C. Sebastian
1928-2010
No funeral services have been announced for Donald C. Sebastian.
Born March 2, 1928 in Wallace, Idaho, Donald died Nov. 27, 2010 in Reno. He was 82.
Donald served in the Marine Corps. His work career was spent in the aircraft and space industry. He worked for Douglas Aircraft Co. and North American Rockwell as well as Northorp Grumman Co.
Ruth A. Hinson
1924-2010
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brune Mortuary in celebration of the life of Ruth A. Hinson.
Born Oct. 19, 1924 in Olden, Texas, to Roy Pickett and Mabel Lassiter Pickett, Ruth died Dec. 11, 2010 at her home in Bishop.
Ruth was married to her high school sweetheart, Frank E. Hinson, for 51 years. She was lucky to be a stay-at-home mom for her two sons.
Barbara Lee Noel
1928-2010
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan 15 at the Neighborhood Church in Bishop for 26-year Big Pine resident Barbara Lee Noel. The Rev. Clyde Harvey will officiate. Burial will be at the Big Pine Cemetery.
Born Oct. 18, 1928 in Yucaipa, Barbara died Dec. 6, 2010 at her home in Big Pine. She was 82.

The City of Bishop has a new police chief.
Chris Carter, who has been with the department for seven years and has acted as interim-chief since the departure of Kathleen Sheehan in September, was officially given the top cop job this month and sworn in before a packed house Monday at City Hall.
The first three rows of the Council Chambers were reserved for Carter’s friends, family and fellow law enforcement brothers, and every seat was full. Some had traveled more than six hours to speak praise for Carter and laud the council and city for making such a good choice for the position.

State court officials have decided that it would be best to build the new, $33 million Inyo County Courthouse in Bishop rather than Independence, despite protests from residents.
The Administrative Offices of the Court released a draft report this week analyzing the two proposed court facility locations, Bishop or Independence, and is asking residents to review and make comments.
The draft report recommends that the project be located in Bishop.

Lone Pine Chamber Director Kathleen New had the idea of an amateur photo contest to be held during the 2010 Lone Pine Film Festival which, according to New, was a great opportunity to become more involved in the film festival activities. She added, “It also opened a door to local photographers to showcase their work and our beautiful surroundings.â€
Contest photographs had to be taken within Inyo County in 2009 or 2010 and up to three entries were allowed. The contestants also had to sign over use of the photographs by the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce for use in promoting the area.
