Deloris June ‘Dee’ Scruggs
Born May 5, 1942 in Ada, Okla. Deloris June “Dee” Scruggs passed away Aug. 15, 2011, at the Bishop Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her father, Otis; mother, Ruby; and brother, James Hagler.
Cecil Dorian Hilborn
After a lifetime of service to the Lord, Cecil Dorian Hilborn heard the call from his Lord to come home after a short battle with an incurable, untreatable lung disease. He always said that when God called his name, he would be ready; and so it was, on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, that God called him home and he Crossed the Bridge at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop, Calif.
Gertrude ‘Gail’ Cooper
Born Nov. 19, 1920 in Big Pine, Gail passed away Sept. 5, 2011 at home in Bishop. She was 90 years old.
A funeral service will be at Big Pine Community United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Sept. 10. Rev. Dr. Karen Moore will officiate. Graveside service will follow at Big Pine Cemetery.

Mammoth Hospital will be opening a physical therapy center at the corner of West Line and Home streets, next to Home Street School and just a block east of Northern Inyo Hospital, this fall.
However, at press time there, did not seem to be a consensus among the involved parties on where employees and patients will park.
Nonetheless, Mammoth Hospital is prepared to take appointments for the new facility, according to a press release.

Local authorities are working together to show a stronger presence at the Owens River after shocking, violent videos showed up on the popular website YouTube.com depicting a number of fights at popular riverside hangouts.
A piece of land â a view, a vital migration path, a home â will be preserved as such forever. Bob and Lee Naylon have basically sold their development rights on their 104 acres in Swall Meadows to the Eastern Sierra Land Trust. Known as a conservation easement, the deal ensures that no matter who owns the land in the future, there can never be any development on the property.
The easement is a unique opportunity for the land owners to retain ownership and management responsibilities for their land while designating how the land will be used now and in the future, according to ESLT.
Superior Court Judge Brian Lamb said the money is in hand and preliminary work for site selection for the new Bishop court facility is in progress.
During a meeting with the Inyo County Board of Supervisors last Monday, Lamb also said the state is nearly ready to begin construction on a new court facility adjacent to Inyo County Jail in Independence. He said work on the Independence facility should begin in the next couple years.
