Harold ‘Hal’ W. Johnson
1919-2011
Memorial services were held Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bishop for Harold “Hal” W. Johnson.
Born Dec. 16, 1919 in Mt. Vernon, Mo. to Fred and Helen Johnson, the second of ten children, Harold died Wednesday, April 27, 2010 in Bishop. He was 91.
Ray Bocanegra
1931-2011
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for 47-year Inyo County resident Ray Bocanegra. Father John Gracey will officiate.
Born Aug. 31, 1931 in Colton, Ray died April 27, 2011 in Round Valley. He was 79.

With the water comes the fun, as is the case in Southern Inyo County with the return of water to the Lower Owens River. The once lush and green Owens Valley floor south of Big Pine, that became a desert after the water was taken by the City of Los Angeles, is turning back into a riparian area full of life and adventure.
The Inyo County and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power want to know exactly what kind of fun people want to have there. The two are developing a recreation plan for the Lower Owens River Project and are asking the public for input.
The Bishop Lady Broncos softball teams both came up with wins over California City Friday. The varsity won 1-0; the junior varsity 19-3.
âWe were short handed,â said varsity coach Stacy Van Nest, âtraveling with only 11 girls. The win took all 11 and they gave it everything they had.â
According to Van Nest, the lone run was deceptive. âWe had several hard hits into the wind,â she said, âso our run doesnât really show how well we were hitting.â

re a bit of a surprise to the Bishop Broncos in early April when the two met at Bishop High. The Ravens took an early lead before the Broncos got on track and came from behind in the fifth inning to win the first High Desert League game 9-4.
There was no surprise in Fridayâs rematch in Cal City. The Broncos came home with a 16-1 win and are still on top of the league standings.
âWe played terrific defense,â said coach Tim Reid. âChance Callahan and Schain Thomson were both outstanding.â

Things will be business as usual at South Lake this year. They may start a little later than usual but with the incredible snowpack built up over the winter, getting to any high-elevation lake will be a challenge until the summer thawing.
âWeâre going to be ready for the Opener,â said Jared Smith, general manager for Parchers Resort and the South Lake Boat Landing. âThe lake should be full just a couple weeks later than usual, and it should be much better than a usual year.â

Catherine Louise Walden
1919-2011
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday May 5 at the Church of the Nazarene in Bishop for Catherine “Kitty” Louise Walden. All who knew and loved Kitty are welcome to join in remembering her.
Born Aug. 3, 1919 in London, England, Catherine Louise Walden, or Kitty, as most knew her, died at the Bishop Care Center on Saturday April 23, 2011. She was 91.
Jeannine Ellen Brown
1929-2011
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for Jeannine Ellen Brown.
Born Joe Ellen Drury on April 24, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Okla., Jeannine died April 23, 2011 at the Bishop Care Center. She was one day shy of turning 82.

Before county staff members develop a final resolution concerning increased fees at local landfills the Inyo County Board of Supervisors wanted to weigh in one last time.
The board met Tuesday with Integrated Waste Manager Chuck Hamilton and two local solid waste service providers to hammer out some of the finer details about what dump fees will be raised to close a $695,000 Integrated Waste Department deficit.
