Itâs not too late to sign up for this weekendâs One-Pitch Tournament held at Bishop City Park this Saturday and Sunday.
Proceeds from the tournament will go towards memberships at the Bishop Bullpen for underprivileged athletes.
The format on Saturday is a round robin. Sunday is a single-elimination run for tournament champion. Each team is guaranteed four shots at the gold.
Play starts at 8 a.m. each day. Saturday ends at midnight; Sunday action will go until 2 or 3 p.m.

Families turned out in droves for the annual Independence Fishing Derby last Saturday.
The day started on the water and ended in Dehy Park for the weigh-in, a silent auction and music, followed by prizes for big trout and bigger stringers.

The game may not have counted, but that didnât stop Bad Company and Red Thunder from going at it Tuesday night in the City of Bishop Softball League, Co-ed B Division.
Red Thunder forfeited the game for lack of enough women in the line-up. According to protocol, there was no winner. But, unofficially, Thunder rained on Bad Companyâs parade with a strong comeback in the open seventh inning.
Bad Company jumped out to an early lead when Mike McDonald hit a 2 RBI single off Red Thunder pitcher Rodney Barlow.

Inyo County will be watched by a new set of eyes when the 2011-12 Grand Jurors is sworn in on July 5.
The group of 11 residents commits an entire year to working on an annual report, a summary of investigations of departments and functions in the county and the cities and towns therein, brought to their attention by citizens.
The jurorsâ mission statement states it âwill act as the publicâs âwatchdogâ by investigating the affairs of governmentâ and â(w)ill judiciously investigate all allegations against and misconduct by public officials.â

Today marks the first day of summer and organizers at the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fair already have many of the logistics ironed out for this yearâs much-anticipated event.
Officials have confirmed that the popular Russell Brotherâs Circus and Discovering Science shows will be returning and flavors for various cooking and baking contests have been selected.
The theme for this yearâs event is âHappy Days are Yours and Mine,â and event organizers are planning a â50s theme reflecting the good old days of the hit TV show âHappy Days.â

Mary Caroline ‘Pat’ Coles
1908-2011
Pat Coles was born in Fort Logan, Colo. on July 24, 1908, and passed away in Bishop on June 15, 2011, just shy of her 103rd birthday.
As a young girl, Pat’s family moved to Vancouver, Wash. where she grew up and went to school. In 1925 she moved with her family to San Francisco. She worked for AT&T for 11 years, then Standard Oil in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and for Hammer Shipping Merchant Marine during the last of the war years.

Residents are being asked to weigh in on the fate of the endangered Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep as officials consider a new monitoring program that includes helicopters and radio tracking devices.
The National Park Service, in cooperation with the California Department of Fish and Game, the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Forest Service-Inyo National Forest, is seeking public comments about a proposal to conduct population monitoring, research and translocation of federally endangered Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep within Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Inyo County residents were afforded a rare glimpse this week of the internal honor code and hierarchy of the cadre of men and women sworn to protect them.
Virtually every available sheriffâs deputy was on hand Thursday for a formal promotion and inspection ceremony that was equal parts pomp and circumstance, and rigid discipline.
In addition to conducting a formal personnel inspection, Sheriff Bill Lutze and other administrative officials promoted two deputies for their outstanding service and welcomed two new recruits into their ranks.

Bishop bareback rider Chase Bowen rode his way into the National High School Rodeo Association finals Friday evening.
Bowen scored two 67s in his first rounds during the California High School Rodeo Association state finals held at Tri-County Fairgrounds. On the final, short go Friday evening, he held on for the required 8 seconds scoring 60 for a total of 200 ponits.
Bowen finished second to Casey Meroshnekoff, 2010 national bareback champion who finished the competition with a total of 218 points.

The Bishop Stingrays are hosting an invitational swim meet, June 25-26, at Bishop City Park pool.
The Lions will serve a pancake breakfast both mornings with proceeds going to the team.
