Around the Leagues – Wild cards: Royals edge A’s, Giants slam Pirates

October 10, 2014

14 Major League Baseball playoffs began with a bang on Tuesday night as the Oakland A’s played the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Royals beat the A’s 9-8 in a 12-inning marathon that featured five lead changes and ended on a walk-off single to left field that barely missed the glove of the A’s diving third baseman. It wasn’t just the best game in the three-year history of the wild card play-in game, it was one of the most exciting postseason games ever.

Sportsbook: NFL Week 4: routs and one monster upset

October 10, 2014

Before Sept. 25 Thursday Night Football, Phil Simms decided to take a small stand and not say the name “Redskins” during the broadcast. Pretty simple really, but it let us know exactly where he stands. A Superbowl champ and respected broadcaster, conspicuously not saying it, and just replacing it with “Washington” if required by the sentence. October 7, 2014

The only problem with local rivalries: one team has to lose. The Lone Pine Golden Eagles and Big Pine Warriors got together Friday night to start the Hi-Lo League 8-man football season. Both came into the game, Lone Pine’s Homecoming, wanting that win after a rough pre-league run.
Big Pine got a chance to flex their muscles in the third quarter, despite the loss of their starting QB. The Warriors lived up to the school’s tradition of physical, tough action. But, the Eagles got the win, 66-14.
