Come-from-behind win for Pitch Slap

July 19, 2013

It looked like another one of those Pitch Slap games: off to a strong start, then fade to another notch in the lost column.
This time Pitch was matched up with Reds, who might not have a great win/loss record, but come with a dugout full of strong athletes and power hitters. Pitch took the early advantage, then the Reds powered back to a 5-14 lead going into the open sixth inning. Pitch had one last shot at pulling off a come-from-behind; all they needed was 10 runs and they’d go 5-5 in league action. Yeah, like all anybody needs is one winning lottery ticket.

The luck of the draw

June 15, 2013

Friday night's finals of the California High School Rodeo Association offered up maybe a little too much suspense for area residents cheering on locals Kayla Inderbieten and Chase Bowen.
Both made it into the finals after the first two go's, Inderbieten in barrels, Bowen in bareback riding.
The prize at the end of Friday's finals was a trip to the National High School Rodeo Association's Finals held in Wyoming in July. Bowen is going, Inderbieten missed it by 0.135 seconds.

Bad Company comes from behind for win

May 29, 2013

The Chuckawallees and Bad Company faced off Tuesday night in the C Coed Division of Bishop’s Adult Softball league. Bad Company came in undefeated with the Chuckawallees right behind them at 1-1.
Chuckawallee took a couple of innings to warm up, but when they did, Bad Company went reeling with a 3-8 deficit. Then it was Bad Company’s turn to fight back, making the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for the 11-10 win.
Bad Company took out the top of Chuckawallee’s batting order in short order in the top of the first, then put the offense to work.

Runners gather for Ultramarathon, NIH fundraiser

May 29, 2013

Considering that the area just celebrated Mules Days, the fact that roughly 300 runners spent the previous weekend, (May 18), trotting from 20-62 miles up and down the Eastern Sierra, on foot, seems like cruel and unusual punishment.
In its 19th running, the Bishop High Sierra Ultramarathon is divided into four segments, each running simultaneously, a 100K, 50 miles, 50K and a 20-mile Fun Run.
