Despite a late-game rally, Just NDNs proved too much for Shirts â€˜n Skirts in Tuesday eveningâ€™s Bishop coed softball game at City Park. The NDNs took out their opponent 11-3.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first inning. NDN Johnny Shoshone hit a 1-RBI single to get things started in the top of the second.
Suma Davis smashed a 2 RBI double into center field in the third. By the end of the inning, the NDNs had extended their lead to 6-0.
Shirts â€˜n Skirts got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Bob Bishop hit a sacrifice fly ball to bring Justin Whitman home.
Aaron Puls, Tanner Kruse and Keith Tatum have been named to All-CIF baseball teams.
Puls, a graduating senior and Bishop Bronco first baseman, went on a hitting spree toward the end of the season and into the playoffs. Puls hit home runs in each of the four playoff games, including a grand slam against Southlands Christian and two against Oxford Academy in the semifinals.
Kruse, a junior, pitched his way through an undefeated High Desert League season with an ERA less than 1.0. Kruse was also effective at the plate.
Puls and Kruse were both named to first team All-CIF.
South Fork Bishop Creek
Reduced flows have really improved the water conditions on the creek. The fishing has remained excellent along most of stretches of the creek with some solid fish in the 2 - to 3-pound range.
Most folks are really doing well in the slower moving pools and deep pockets. More solid 2-pound plus rainbows along with plenty of pan sized stockers are filling stringers. Thomas Bouyants, worms, mini-jigs, Panther Martins and Thomas Bouyants are producing best.
Grace Speakman raced her way into first place in the Youth Womenâ€™s Overall division at The 100â€™s MC Classic dirt bike race May 28 in Spangler Hills. The Bishop 13-year-old comes from a long line of desert racers and has been competing for two years. Her 2010-11 seasons include top fives in every race she entered.
Itâ€™s not too late to sign up for this weekendâ€™s One-Pitch Tournament held at Bishop City Park this Saturday and Sunday.
Proceeds from the tournament will go towards memberships at the Bishop Bullpen for underprivileged athletes.
The format on Saturday is a round robin. Sunday is a single-elimination run for tournament champion. Each team is guaranteed four shots at the gold.
Play starts at 8 a.m. each day. Saturday ends at midnight; Sunday action will go until 2 or 3 p.m.

Families turned out in droves for the annual Independence Fishing Derby last Saturday.
The day started on the water and ended in Dehy Park for the weigh-in, a silent auction and music, followed by prizes for big trout and bigger stringers.

The game may not have counted, but that didnâ€™t stop Bad Company and Red Thunder from going at it Tuesday night in the City of Bishop Softball League, Co-ed B Division.
Red Thunder forfeited the game for lack of enough women in the line-up. According to protocol, there was no winner. But, unofficially, Thunder rained on Bad Companyâ€™s parade with a strong comeback in the open seventh inning.
Bad Company jumped out to an early lead when Mike McDonald hit a 2 RBI single off Red Thunder pitcher Rodney Barlow.
Bishop bareback rider Chase Bowen rode his way into the National High School Rodeo Association finals Friday evening.
Bowen scored two 67s in his first rounds during the California High School Rodeo Association state finals held at Tri-County Fairgrounds. On the final, short go Friday evening, he held on for the required 8 seconds scoring 60 for a total of 200 ponits.
Bowen finished second to Casey Meroshnekoff, 2010 national bareback champion who finished the competition with a total of 218 points.
Bishop Stingrays Swim Meet
The Bishop Stingrays are hosting an invitational swim meet, June 25-26, at Bishop City Park pool.
The Lions will serve a pancake breakfast both mornings with proceeds going to the team.
