Tomorrow evening two Owens Valley high school football squads will take one more step in the CIF playoffs.
The Bishop Broncos have been there before and as the number one seed in the Northeast Division are expected to go far in the bracket. They start that process against Viewport (7-3) at 6:30 p.m. in John Schwab Stadium.

The Bishop Broncos Junior Varsity football team scored their second consecutive High Desert League championship last Thursday against the Desert Scorpions in what spectators have described as âthe game of the century.â
Both teams were undefeated in league, so the championship title hinged on the outcome. The Broncos staged a comeback in the fourth quarter but the victory came down to a blocked field goal attempt by the Scorpions.
Bishop went up 6-0 on a TD by Jose Jimenez in the first quarter but was behind 6-14 at the half.
November 14th
The University of California Irvine Anteaters menâs soccer team won the Big West Championship tournament Saturday, beating UC Santa Barbara 3-2 in double overtime.
Chino Santana, former Bishop High School soccer player, was a big part of that win, scoring the Anteatersâ first goal in the first half, his fourth of the season.
Santanaâs assist in the semifinals helped propel the team into the championship match.
UC Irvine is ranked number 8 in Division 1 menâs soccer. The win gives the Anteaters an automatic berth in the NCAA playoffs.

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles will have home-field advantage in round two of the CIF 8-Man football playoffs.
The 32-14 win over the Lancaster Baptist Eagles Friday night secured Lone Pineâs spot in the quarterfinals. The Golden Eagles won the coin flip Monday morning, giving them the advantage over Excelsior Education Center in the Nov. 18 match-up.

The Bishop Broncosâ Cross Country girls team came in first, the boys team second, in High Desert League competition held Nov. 2 at Desert High.
Broncos runners will be competing today in the CIF Preliminaries at Mt. San Antonio College.
The Lady Broncos were undefeated for the season, claiming league championship ahead of Rosamond and Kern Valley.
On the boysâ side, Rosamond took first, Bishop second followed by Kern Valley, Desert and Cal City.
âIâm proud of these atheltes for the effort they have put in this season and for who they are as people,â said head coach Jeff Perry.

Playing on their opponentsâ turf, the Bishop Broncos scorched the Desert Scorpions Thursday night, 61-20, to officially claim the High Desert League Championship for the second straight year. Bishop is seeded number one in the Northeast Division with a 5-0 league record, 9-1 overall.
Desert brought all the weapons in their arsenal to the game, but most of them backfired. The Scorpions, tied with Kern, Frazier and Cal City at 2-2 going into the final league game, had to play spoiler to the Broncos to have a shot at making the playoffs.
November 9th
Only a month to go before Sage to Summit begins its annual Winter Race Series at Millpond.
The first of the five-race series starts Saturday, Dec. 10. According to race organizers, the routes will return to courses from the first two years of the series. Apparently, the more challenging courses used in 2010 brought mixed reviews.
This year, Sage to Summit is teaming up with the Bishop High School Cross Country Team and coach Jeff Perry. The Winter Race series will be a fundraiser for the team.

The Bishop Broncos scored their fourth shutout in a row, 49-0, Friday night against the Rosamond Roadrunners, unofficially clinching the High Desert League championship.
With four of the six-school league cannibalizing each other into 2-2 seasons, the win secured the championship for the Broncos with one game remaining, against the Desert Scorpions, in the regular season.
Coach Bill Egan may be the only person in Bishop not speculating on the post-season playoffs. Heâs still waiting until after the Desert game, Thursday, Nov. 10.

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles are the Hi-Lo League football champions, finishing regular season with an 8-0 record.
The Golden Eagles take on the Lancaster Baptist Eagles this Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in round one of the playoffs. Lancaster Baptist is an at-large team from the tough Heritage League.
Lone Pine is ranked seventh in CIF 8-Man Div. 1; Lancaster Baptist, ninth.
